Hello,

This is our situation:

We have been leasing some of our micros equipment from the previous restaurant in our location. They are taking some of the equipment (server and some terminals/printers). I have already replaced the terminals on the floor and have purchased a server. I have installed micros on the server and it runs fine (with a new database, i cant get the old one to load). So here is my problem:

We have been using the server and micros system from the old restaurant. When they programmed the system they did it right on top of the other restaurants data (except sales and cc info of course, they cleaned that out). We own the licensing for the system and the DB. I have started fresh to get rid of alot of the stuff that doesnt work or is not necessary to our system from the old system. On the fresh install there seems to be a lot of things I need to program that might be in some sort of skeleton database. Is there any baseline database that micros uses to start a fresh install? I would really like to avoid working with Micros as they have been quite an unpleasant experience and quite expensive as well. Is there any way to get a database like this? If there is not, is there an easy way to take the database from the old server and "clean it", then use it in our new server?

Thank you in advance, this forum is so helpful it has been a godsend in the past, so many thanks!!

Aaron

Hi,
Some places are organised enough to have a shell database ready for the local setup / taxes. To clean up a database you need to clear out the totals then you can delete menu items, employees etc. In regards to attaching databases, it can be difficult, as there are 2 methods: 1 is to paste it into the directory and create a new log. the 2nd method is to restore using Database Manager.
What region are you in?

Alright, I got the old database up and running. Would it be easy to clear all the employee, sales, and menu tables? If so, would someone be willing to give me a little direction as to which tables and so on? Thank you again.

mrpinks3 - We are located in Oregon. Micros here is not that bad, probably no worse than most verticle software vendors I would suppose, it is just frustrating to get run in circles.

Hi,
To clear the totals (so you can delete employees & menu items) open Configurator. The menu at the top has an option CLEAR TOTALS. If you are not allowed to clear totals, look at your Employee Class and look under PRIVILEGES\PRIVILEGE OPTIONS\ and there is a tick box to CLEAR TOTALS there.
Once that history is gone you can DELETE and BLOCK DELETE (from record > to record).
The DB will already be set for your local taxes etc. (Oregon) Some places have special options / setup such as French Polynesia, etc. These you can check on the RESTAURANT\TAXES tab, and the SALES\TAX RATES tabs, but you should be fine.
I recommend doing regular backups in Database Manager (DM) while making your changes.

Hey,

Thank you for the advice, my next step will be to clean the tables. Another question: What is the "Set name utility" and where can I find it? I would like to change the name of the server if possible. Thanks again.

this is from the documentation wih that utility (below). Do you know from which Micros office the server was originally built?

The set name utility is used for changing the server and/or client computer name in a win32 environment. Typically it is used for mass staging.
This utility allows you to update the computer name of the server or a client so that you do not have to rerun the RES Installation Program. This utility will make the necessary changes to the computer name, the registry, the client installation database (client MSI) and RES shortcuts, thus allowing the end user to configure multiple RES systems from a single image.
It will not update the MICROS database as this is usually replaced during the staging process.

Hi,

I have all the setname utilities (they are version specific). What version are you running? An explanation of setname is that if you look at the Services running on the server, you will find one called sqlBANANA (where BANANA is the name of the server). IIS & server ports are listening and use this to access the database. So, if you change the server name the usual way, the REGISTRY and SQL service will not have been updated. The database must be set to OFF and the system is automatically restarted.

Using SETNAME will change Everything for you (except DOMAIN name if present).

So what version are you wanting?

Thank you very much!! So, I have the system installed and micros is working wonderfully now. I have cleared the old menu/employee information and it all works perfectly...except, the credit cards. On the workstations it gives a driver not loaded error. I think I found the installer that was used on the old pos server when they did some work last march. So my next question: How do I get the credit card drivers installed? Do I call MerchantLink? will they have the drivers I need, or can I use the one I found? Thanks again.

Aaron

So I called Micros, we do not have any time left, and now they are essentially ignoring us. They said they would start a case and have a tech remote in to do the install. We have to get the system up and running, is there any way to get this done? Thanks again for all the help.

You need in install your Micros credit card driver and then go into POS configurator and enter the information.Do you have the file?

Hi,

Personally I would not use Micros' card system. They promote themselves as the only PCI compliant POS system on the market, but thats because other POS systems use tokens to relay the status of the transaction. Micros captures & stores the card number needlessly. It is a very involved process to install the certs & everything to make the system intergrated & also PCI compliant. Do you have all the things needed?

•DBA database password is not set to default.
•MICROS database password is not set to default.
•Enhanced security must be enabled.
•Days Untill Password Expires (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Minimum Password Length (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Password Repeat Interval (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Require Alpha-Numeric Passwords (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Maximum Failed Logins (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Maximum Idle Time In Minutes (System -> Restaurant -> Security)
•Mask Credit Card Number (Sales -> Tender/Media -> CC Tender)
•Mask Cardholder Name (Sales -> Tender/Media -> CC Tender)
•Mask Expiration Date (Sales -> Tender/Media -> CC Tender)
•Database file encryption passphrase is not set to default.
•Sensitive data passphrase is not set to default.

And this is not even before starting on installing the Payment Gateway:

You will need drivers, processor issuer SSL certificate, PMS script for interface, documentation on all the steps including the EOD autosequences & reporting.eg:

1 Network communication test
2 Install driver file
3 Import SSL certificate
Modify database permission
4 Setup credit card driver
5 Setup interface for DCC function
6 Enter CA/EDC activation code
7 Modify system registry
8 Setup each workstation voucher printer
9 Setup each RVC CA/EDC settings
10 Setup employee class privilege
11 Setup each credit card tender
12 Setup payment screen
13 Setup EOD autosequence
14 Reboot Micros RES Server
15 Run credit card driver test
16 Run test transaction

Do you have the certs etc required for your installation?

We got a hold of micros again today, as they have never gotten back to us from our previous call. They sent me a zip with the required driver and documentation on installing the driver. I have the scripts from the old server and all the security settings have been modified for pci compliance. No I do not have the ssl cert. We will going live with the server this weekend (our deadline is Sunday morning). According to the documentation the installer will adjust the registry, is this correct?
