Anyone heard anything on the next Micros res upgrade to version 5. Seems like the rumor has been floated around for over a year. There must be a lot of users like myself waiting on any new purchase only to be obsoleted by an update the following month. There has to be a lot of willing money on the sidelines being kept out of the hands of resellers and their employees.

I heard Feb this year, and then about 3 months ago October. The other POS solutions I have worked with have had problems when switching to Win7, in relation to UAC i.e. when switching off an autosequence, the service did not have rights to turn turn it off.

I would imagine the delay will be due to this kind of testing. I understand substantial changes have been made to TMS to make it comparable to Respak. KDS has features such as being able to bump individual items off (usually whole order, not lines).

You really wouldnt want to be the first cabs off the rank. RES4 didnt get it right until 4.1 HF3, thats 8 patches including SP1HF3NovaPatchE.

Didn't version 4 come out in 2006? 5 years and counting to get out the next major upgrade seems like they have given up on the new installation market. Even Win7 has been out for two years to shake out any issues if the development department was working in earnest. If I was a VAR I would be pushing customers toward other products instead of continuing to tell customers that the new MICROS product will be out in just a few months. Much of the hardware bought with V4 installations is nearing the EOL cycle and there are no guarantees that any newly purchased replacement hardware will be usable with a V5 upgrade when it finally comes.

I have been told by our district that the Workstation4 and up is supported in RES 5, so most hardware purchased in the past few years should be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about backwards compatibility as I have seen recent versions of Micros software work with some very old equipments and still see old equipments (2700/3700 early versions) still working fine after 10+ years

I think the wait for the v5 is due to the fact that Microsoft has announced Win-8 will be out next year and probably the dev. team is waiting to know more about-it and see if there are any major changes

I heard Res5 was out in monitored release a few weeks ago. There don't seem to be many new features, just a tech upgrade.
Windows 7/2008 only, .Net 4.0, SAS 11 and (finally!!) Crystal 2008.

I see that V5 press release is out on the micros site but pmegan appears to be right. They don't mention any enhancements other than compatibility with new OS's and new hardware drivers. Sounds like a marketing dud.

Res 5 is a technology upgrade. Not really a marketing dud, its basically Res 4.9 running on the newest platforms. Having upgraded the compatibilty of a few smaller applications from XP to windows 7 I can appreciate the scope of the project. I'm actually glad they decided to upgrade a working product as is instead of trying to add new features along with it. Anybody else remember the headaches going from 3.2 to 4.0? Maybe this way the new release will stabalize faster.
