Hi,

We recently upgraded from 4.3HF1 to 5.1 MR2 primarily due to legal requirements for bilingual printing on the checks, move to Win7, and be PCI compliant.

Ever since the upgrade, we have been having issues as below:
1. Autosequence & Reports - extremely slow to the point it takes upto about 3-4 minutes to open up. Otherwise its a blank screen that stays open

2. Manager's Procedures - once again extremely slow and takes upto 2-3 minutes to open and another few minutes for any operation such as menu item availability

Obviously, the store teams are pretty frustrated.

Has anyone faced these issues? What could be the problem and any suggestions how this can be sorted out asap?

We did check with the local support here and they say its a dot net issue and that the report viewer is out of micros !!!

Help !!!

Thanks,
Sanjeev

Open up the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\Hosts (use notepad) file and make sure the workstation and server names are accurate and that the IP addresses are accurate. Also make sure there isn't anything redundant in there.

The reporting system and the manager procedures application both use IIS, a local Microsoft web server. They are C# based ASP.NET applications. When accessing the information and such it uses the computer name, hence making sure the Hosts file is correct.

If that all is correct, you can also check which version of .NET your IIS is using.

Oh, and the report viewer does use the CrystalDecisions library, but it was designed by Micros and is maintained by Micros. Saying it is 'outside of Micros' is like saying that RES is outside of Micros because it uses standard Win32 libraries...

I'm guessing it's going to be an IIS issue since Manager Procedures is getting banged up as well as the reports.

Is this server on a domain or just a standalone? If it's on a domain, are you having these problems when you log on as a local admin? I had a ton of problems like this on a Res 5 server when logging on as a domain user. Everything was fine before joining the domain, but all hell broke loose once domain users tried to log on. There had to be all kinds of adjustments to the IIS and Windows permissions. This was a Windows2008 server, but it's close enough to Win7 that it might be the same issues.

Hi Moregelen,

The IIS shows its using 2.0 .NET and also installed is 4.0 .NET.
Should we change the it 4.0 ?

Hi pmegan,

Currently the machine is connected to the domain and the user is a local admin. You had mentioned all kinds of adjustments to the IIS and Windows permissions need to be configured - can you share any info on this please?

Thanks,
Sanjeev

Try logging on as the local admin, computername\administrator, not a local admin. We had a lot of issues with windows groups. For example, if we logged on as a user whose security group was in the local admin group, that user still had no access. Assigning that account directly into the local admin group gave it full access.
I generally set up everyone but our IT dept as local power users so it got even messier.

I'm trying to find all the security changes that have to be made. I know that we gave full control of the entire Micros folder, as well as the folder containing the crystal reports libraries, to the local power users group. There were also changes to IIS security.

I know a guy in our local Micros office who likes this kind of challenge and he was a great help, I'm trying to get a recap of this from him for an opening we have planned shortly. But Micros in general won't be much help. As long as everything works when you're logged in as a local user they feel their product is working and won't help you troubleshoot what they see as AD policy and security issues.
