I own coffee shop and used MICROS POS system for over 2 years. All the sudden today in the morning, the system got shut off and give me this blue screen with following messages

"NK.BIN not found on CF"
Embedded BIOS Debugger Invalid Opcode Trap

EBDEBUG:

What's that mean??

I called the tech support and they will charge minium $300+ to come out and check...

What system do you have, E7? What is the platform. WS5A?

E5 I am not sure how to find platform information. CPU is amd gx3-c3/b1

Thank you

What I mean is what micros software are you running? Is it the only unit or is there more than one?

Must be E7. Firstly I would remove the compact flash card and take a copy of everything on it. have you been taking backups of your DB onto a USB memory stick? It sounds to me like the OS cannot be loaded and I would try to restore the OS from the CMOS / do a factory restore.

You would then have to re-install the the E7 software and restore the DB.

As long as you have the DB, it would take about 1 hours to do the factory restore, install the software then restore the DB.

If a factory restore cannot be done, then the station would need to be returned for repair.

There is a thread somewhere with passwords for WS4 and WS5 factory restore passwords

Thank you so much DrZogg!!
I found below for factory restore. Is this what I should do?
Factory Restore
The procedure to initiate the Factory Restore feature can be found below.

WARNING:
Factory Restore deletes all files from the Compact Flash Card. If required, take steps to preserve files on the CF card before running Factory Restore.
1. Connect a Keyboard to the workstation, and power-up.
2. When the Blue BIOS splash screen appears, press the key combination [ALT-M]. Note: some keyboards do not initalize in time to detect this key combination. As an alternative, you can press [Del] to enter BIOS Setup, select the Features Configuration screen, and set the
WIN_CE_FACTORY_RESTORE field to 'Enabled.' Press [ESC] to continue.
? The screen prompts for the system password.
3. If you have not changed the default system password, enter 'Hmlton' (case sensitive) and press enter. Press 'Y' to confirm.
? The screen returns to the Setup Main Menu.
4. Select 'Write to CMOS and Exit' and press enter. Press 'Y' to confirm.
? The unit restarts and prompts 'Factory Restore in Progress - Please
Wait.'
5. When the process is complete, the unit restarts.
The workstation is now running the operating system and platform files that were originally stored in the hidden factory restore partition. Over time, some files may become out-of-date. However since the purpose of Factory Restore is to repair a workstation that will not boot, the unit
can now be pointed to a properly configured application server running the CAL where it will receive available platform updates and the application software.

Also, I am really a newbie to MICROS, I've never taking backups of my DB onto USB memory stick. Is there a way to save my DB information before I commit the factory reset? If I can't save my DB, what's the new factory setting will be like? Will that remove all of my configurations such as pricing information and credit card batch processing information and so on? or just data?

Thank you so much for your help once again!

put the compact flash into a card reader, copy the contents of the db folder to restore later.

You must also have the E7 software to install. If you do not have this, you will have to contact Micros or get the right E7 version software from somewhere.

Do they usually give us the software ? I don't remember receiving anything from them when they setupy machine. Do you know how much they will charge us for the software?

Read the exit report / sales agreement. There is usually a mention of software / media

Hi MicrosNewbie :)
I personally used Micros POS a couple of years ago and had continuous trouble with it.
In 2010, I changed to AccuPOS and I didn't have any problems since then.
I included the link to their website and in case you might be interested, they also offer a free demo version I think.
Best, Anna
