Hi everybody,

i have an non Micros POS workstation(actually its a computer with a touchscreen monitor) and there is a some custom(no name) magnetic card reader attached to this computer. All drivers are installed, Micros CAL is installed and everything works fine except Magnetic Card Reader. To be more precise, the Magnetic Card Reader does not work with Micros Magnetic Cards!

When i open Notepad and swipe Visa credit card, or some other Magnetic card(from my bank IE) the data is normally written in Notepad, but when i swipe Micros Magnetic Card, nothing happens!

Does anyone knows what can be the problem? Is there maybe a special encoding for Micros Magnetic Cards?

Have you tried a few Micros cards or are you using just one?
Also, does the card Micros card you're using work at the workstations?

I've put mag card readers on Micros servers, (connected via USB), and they've worked fine in OPS.

I`ve tried three new Micros cards, and get the same result. They fork fine on Micros PCWS2010.

This mag card reader is connected to computer over PS/2 connector.

Hi,

In Micros you have to have a COM port for the system to listen to the OS, this is done in the Devices Tab. You also have to state what drivers you are using (the Integrated or OPOS drivers).
Then the peripherals need to be added to the Workstation TAB.
Essentially the hardware is working but the software is not listening.
What Micros version are you using?

Regards

It sounds like the card reader is working. Swiping a credit card in Notepad shows the track info, it's just a batch of Micros cards that it won't read.

Do you have any standard Micros workstations? If so, do they read the cards?

Yes, i have standard Micros workstations (PCWS2010) and they read this cards just fine...

So continuing from my notes above, on a 2010 the COM port is #1, the baud rate probably 9600, and the device is integrated. This is the kind of info you need to configure for your workstation (pc based unit).

Thanks for the tips everybody, i will try to configure it like that, though i am always hoping that this client will decide to buy Micros workstations :)
