We're researching options for PCI compliant wireless installations and hand held devices that will run Micros. We know about the Symbol devices that are certified to work with Micros, but does anyone use another device they would suggest?

Also, has anyone had Micros install their wireless network? If so, how well does it work?

We have actually discussed this idea but haven't tried it yet. How is the battery life when running remote desktop on the ipad?

Which magnetic card reader are you testing?

We have one deployed for the minibar operations. They go through the building taking inventory and charging items from guest rooms into Micros. They work 8 hour shifts and the battery is maintains power throughout the day. When the staff memeber is not working on it, the unit goes to sleep. Only draw back is if they forget to charge it, there is no spare battery.
The rdp client is set to persistent connection so it doesn't drop the RDP session. Even when they roam out of range(Rarely), the client gives the appearance that its still working. We use the free (Ad supported) pocketcloud app from wise. I purchased the Pro version but I was unable to lock the screen rotation.

The Apple store has a model they use and were trying to sell us. I'm waiting for a response from them if the reader just passes the track 2 data in plain text like Micros mag readers or is the data manipulated.

Good work! A friend of mine wanted to run the Wine List at his restaurant on ipads, where guests could browse the wines then order them from there straight into Micros. This would be a step towards that.
I have uploaded a doc on mag card standards that may help you.

Thank you. I will share this with the Apple genius. I will hit a home run if it works! :)
