Hi all,

Does anybody have decent documentation on GSS? I've been asked to write a gift certificate import but haven't used it since Res v3.2 so need to refamiliarize myself with it.

Wow... Never thought Would see you posting like this pmegan, but we all need help at times. Saddly, I could only assist you with 9700 system. Unless it would be similar interface from Res X.0 to 9700. What exactly are you needing? Import Card numbers into the DB?

Yeah, so much for my know-it-all status, lol. The GSS docs are probably less available than SIM docs. I think the last time I worked on GSS gift cards/certs it was still an optional add-on and the touchscreen buttons were all PMS/SIM inquiries.

One of the companies I do contract work for gave me a sample csv that they want to import into the gift cert detail table. There are a few foreign key constraints on that table, so I want to gen up a test system to issue a few gift certificates and see how everything links.

Yea, I know right. Not asking you anything else again. ;-)

As for the GSS and what you are looking for, I am afraid my knowledge of the 3700/Res system doesn't extend that far.

I don't think the have updated the reference docs since version 3.x I used to have a hard copy that gave a bit more detail then the online docs. I'll check when I'm back in my home office

Use the GSS online "help" and search "Import" and its gives you some information not shown in the docs

Thanks Wildbar. That deals with an import wizard for a customer info.
I'm looking for docs on setting up and using gift cards. The file I was given is supposed to import into the gss_gift_certificate_dtl table, but there are foreign key links back to the gss_gift_certificate_def table that will throw errors. If I can get my test server to a point where I can issue/edit/redeem a gift certificate I'll be able to figure out the back end of it.

pmegan - I found the ancient docs you referenced from 2000, but the online help was at least updated in 2009. I find nothing on the table structure, though.

You just need to know how to setup GSS to accept gift cards?

I use GSS A LOT, and have some custom SIMs for it, including SIMs for handling the customer database (with things like an integration into Google Maps for directions and distances), as well as some gift card SIMs for doing things like authorizing/closing a gift card. Let me know if you need any further help with that! Finally have a chance to repay some of the help you've provided :D

Thanks Moregelen, I'll take a look at this probably next week. I'm stuck in FM hell for a few days.

Many, many a day spent coding FM. Its so clunky but the end result can be great.

Yeah. It's a gompy product. I reproduced our old Remacs GL product in FM about 10 years ago and it's a beast. Just shy of 340 named cells with almost 200 of them using SQL snippets to populate. We have a few locations running multiple businesses off of one server. The "System" totals are actually RVC groups with a bunch of custom tables & stored procedures to define them and generate totals for each business, so making global changes across 19 locations without EM is just exhausting.
The upside is that FM gave me a way to pause the transfer of data from Micros to our accounting system, so our accountants can make their adjustments and dump the data right in to Great Plains without help from me. Which usually gives me time to move on to other headaches, like GSS, lol.

Hi Moregelen, any chance you could share your sim for the Google Maps integration?

You'll probably get a quicker response if you start a new thread rather than tacking this on to the end of one that's 3 weeks old.
