Hi, I am new to the forum and don't know if this is the right place to post my question but I will give it a try. I bought Micros e7 WS5 from ebay that was used about an year prior and when I start it it says "Need to program an employee and a job to use configurator." Then if I hit "OK" another pop up window opens up that says "A new encryption key must be generated".
I appreciate any advice on how to make this work. I called Micros and they told me I have to deal with my local dealer which I also called and explained them what I did and how I got this POS and I also agreed to get someone that I will pay I said "reasonable" charge to help me with programming this POS but no one called me back or stopped by at my place. I called them again and left a ton voicemails with no result. It has been over 3 weeks and I guess they are not interested in working with me at all. I have never heard of anything like this. I like the POS systems they make but the people working for them are just terrible in customer service. Anyway I am not here to bash them, again I appreciate any advice on how to proceed. thank you

When you need a new muffler; do you buy a muffler at NAPA and bring the muffler to your mechanic and ask that they install the muffler you bought?
When you need a new roof; do you tell the roofer that you will be buying all the materials at Home Depot?
Do you bring your own Vodka when you go out to a bar and just buy their orange juice?

It's not hard to realize why they are not responsive to your calls as the Micros Dealer likely has other projects that generate a profit with customers that actually bought something from them. In fact; if the Micros Dealer did help you and I was one of their customers that would upset me because I don't want them
allocating any resources, parts or knowledge to a business or individual who didn't help pay for the overhead and infrastructure that actually made those people and parts available. IOW: your "terms" of the relationship do not meet their terms.

I don't know which part is unclear to you?! I said that I will pay for the service, just like you would pay for an oil change or any service at a dealership even of you didn't buy you vehicle from them. Your point doesn't make sense in my opinion but let me clear it just for you one more time - I will pay for the service and everything just didn't buy it brand new from them.

The reason they probably won't help you is that they could get into serious trouble for doing so - technically, the person who sold you that product, did so illegally. The MICROS licencing is non-transferrable, and MICROS Corp is a major hard-ass. They will not take kindly to finding out a dealer is helping with that.

Sorry.. if I knew more about e7 I would point you in the right direction :(

Just so I am clear... you bought equipment on EBay and in doing so saved some money and avoided the Micros Dealer, now you're disappointed they are avoiding you.

The main issue here for the dealer is where you got your software license - we've never minded when our customers buy their hardware on eBay, we just refuse to put them on hardware support. Hell, for upgrades, we're actually recommending eBay or other third party sellers for some of our customers, because the prices for workstations a-la-carte are outrageous. The software key though is another story; the hardware is yours to do with as you want. The software licensing is not.
