I am trying to setup a used e7 for the first time...I have loaded files on the pc and can access e7 however, i do not have privileges to restore or retrieve a db...where can I find initial setup info?

Plug in a keyboard. Restart the unit, and as it boots up press C to launch configurator. Do you have a database to restore? If so restore to the \DB location (backup001.gpz) and restore using the functions button on the TOP RIGHT corner.

If starting from scratch, start in Configurator by navigating on the TOP LEFT, and start from the very bottom and work your way up. (That is from devices & setup all the way up to Employees)

If you lock yourself out reboot & press C to access configurator

Thanks zogg but here is the deal...ive loaded the pc and can access configurator no problem...ive copied a db backup from one of the workstations but when i try to import it on the pc I get permissions error....is there a manual that starts with a new setup?

Hi,

I dont have any docs, I will just make a list below:

The DB path is C:\Program Files\MICROS\e7\DbBackups
The DB names are backup.001.gz and backup.002.gz

When attempting to restore a DB you are getting an error.
Are the DB files valid or is there a version difference between the PC software and the software used on the Workstations?

You should be fine to take the DB from the current setup & restore it into a computer & add it to Configurator (on the PC),as this is how I work when maintaining clients systems.

All I can think of is a version mismatch between the WS and the PC.

thanks for your reply zogg, here is where I am at currently: (2) ws4 running e7 v3 mr2 and RC15.1. (1) pc running xp pro and the same e7 as the workstations. I figured out how to get into the system and restored a db. my workstations also seem to run the cal. however, only the workstations "see" each other on the network...neither one "sees" the pc. workstations show active/active on each workstation for the workstations but inactive/inactive for the pc...the pc shows the opposite active/active for itself but inactive/inactive for both workstations...i have tried the set inactive and then active to no avail. networking is good so I don't understand why they do not communicate?? now I am asked to generate a key but I cannot due to the fact that all nodes aren't active!!
Please can you help?? my e add is shawntrek_AT_Google'smail.com
thanks to you and anyone else that can help!
