Micros - Auto Log Off Employees

Hey Micros Gurus,

We have a SIM running on a specific workstation in our environment that requires no one being logged on the machine to execute.

We have found that employees are sometimes forgetting to log off the workstation after placing an order. It isnt a problem for the employees to remain logged in on other workstations, just this one machine needs to be in a logged off state.

My question, is there a sequence that could be added to the existing SIM to log off any employee that is not in the process of entering an order? A seperate SIM that runs and checks the state of the machine and logs employees off?

Thanks in advance for assistance.

can't you set their employess class to auto log off, then set your log off delay in devices--> workstations

Hi MikeRose,

That would definitely appear to be the path of least resistance.

Unfortunately the AutoLog Off config would require all employees to function as a Pop Up Employee (sign in for each transaction). This would not work in our environment since we have cashiers on specific workstations for their entire shift and they would not want to sign in for each transaction. This may be a constraint of the version we are on (4.3).

I made a test SIM to call the Log Off macro in our system and it appears that it will not fire while an employee is logged in. Kind of useless for me if that is the case. I may have not written it correctly if you think it should run when someone is logged in.

I thought of maybe tying the logoff macro to the printing event but the machine I am focusing on is a call in machine and receipts dont print with the future orders.

Scratching my head now.

This is from another forum with a similiar request, essentially you will make them all Pop-Up, but the tender media won't sign them out

"To do this, you need to set employees class to sign out after transaction.
Set work station option bit to enable employee auto sign out and set auto sign
out delay to 5 seconds.
Set Tenders/Media keys to override employee sign out"

Thanks for the tip MikeRose, I will do some testing on our lab on Monday and see how this setup behaves.

Thanks again for your help.

hawksfan,
Were you able to come up with a solution to this problem?

Got2BTru, We found that the path of least resistance in this case was to focus on training the end users to be aware of the status of the workstation and log out when completing transactions.

The workstation our SIM is running on is a call-in specific workstation that does not get heavy use.

We do this all of the time. Have your cashiers set-up as a different employee class that are not pop-up employees and the other employees need to be set-up as pop-up employees. We have cashiers in our environment, and when they are logged in, they stay logged in until they log out. Managers and servers get logged out after each transaction.
