Hello,

I have a quick questions for the Micros gurus.....
we are running Micros at 7 locations, most are 3.2 hf7 I think, one is 4.0 and the latest is 4.0 not sure of the hf level (it's a brand new install) it looks like the .net framework is 1.xx on the servers, am I safe to load a .net program that will install .net 3.5 ? or will that mess with Micros in any way ?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Robert,

You should be ok with the 4.x sites, but you may have a problem with the 3.2 systems. My understanding is that loading a new version of .Net changes the ASP.Net version in IIS. Res 3.2 was the first to use HTTP, ASP and XML for communications and isn't very flexible on the version.

You might be able to just go into the Micros web applications in IIS and change the ASP.Net version back to 1.1, but that would need some serious testing before rolling it out. I upgraded to 4.1 across the boards before learning about this so never had a chance to try it out myself.

A big red flag in your question is "am I safe to load a .net program that will install .net 3.5?" Be very careful with what you load anywhere on your payment application (MICROS) subnet. While Micros may work fine, many times it will violate one or more PCI rules so if you are ever breached, it's an automatic fine. In a nutshell, PCI states that your payment application network should be used for your payment application -- no sharing.

It is a program that I have written myself to compliment Micros, so I know exactly what it does, and am positive it is not violating any PCI rules. Presently I am re-writing it in .net 1.0 so it won't mess with the version of .net Micros uses just to be cautious.

That's got to be tough. I just finished rewriting .Net 2.0 program in 1.1, but .Net 1.0 was miserable to work with when it was new so going back from 3.5, ouch!

Not looking forward to it!!!! did I see that you are registered at the convention in Vegas next week ?
my Boss and I are thinking about going.

Things got really crazy around here and this is my first time back on the board here.

My boss went to Vegas for a few days but I stayed in NY. I've spent enough working time out there so really didn't want to go for another business trip.

How's the 3.5 to 1.0 project going?

Haven't even started it, I got a little crazy as well and ended up not going, we converted out last store to Micros that week.

Seems like last week was crazy all over. We're in the middle of 5 big systems cutovers so any time away, even for business, is just out of the question.
