We are finally looking at upgrading our locations to RES 5.X Was kinda surprised when our sales rep said RES 5.X will ONLY work on Workstation 5's and the newer hard disk units Of course we have a mix of Workstation 5's and 4's at our locations so they want to upgrade all the 4's to 5's at a huge cost per location. So just wanted to confirm what the sales rep is saying.
Thanks

The workstations officially supported are 4LX and up; however, so long as you upgrade the compact flash first regular workstation 4s work just fine. We've been doing two stage upgrade: first upgrade compact flash, platform, and CAL on the workstations. Can take several hours if things don't go right. The next time we go out we plop the server in and re-CAL the workstations. One bug we've noticed is that sometimes the workstations 4's won't pull a workstation list no matter what you do; typing it in manually works just fine.

So no; you don't HAVE to replace the workstations 4's, not yet at least. Eventually the version of CE they use will be non-PCI though.

Thanks. What size compact flash do you suggest and what platform version are you taking them to?
As well do you have an idea when the PCI compliancy issue is? Hoping not this spring like XP

Don't quote me on it but I think it was some time in 2016 you had to reach the workstations.

We're just making sure they are on the most recent platform and CAL.

A lot of our sites still on have compact flashes below 128. When they are below that we bump them all the way to 512. We've recommended a minimum of 256 but have had successful installs on 128 flash.

The reason they are probably saying no workstation 4's is because if you don't do all the pre-swap steps just right it can be a major pain in the ass to get them to work. Upgrade CAL, platform, and CF before putting in the new server and you shouldn't have problems. Just be prepared to manually type in the workstation name, IP address and the WS4RES software package selection.

Thank you Always great to have people like you on this forum!

Our local Micros office is stating 12/31/2014 as EOL/EOS for the Workstation4s. Reference: Link

And Moreglen is quite right that the WS4s will work with 5.x, but it is a definite PITA.
