I have a site that is randomly experiencing workstations freezing up during the printing function (sending an order/printing a check/closing a check-cash or credit). It happens randomly and on different terminals. We have replaced all the wiring in the location and network equipment. However it is still occurring. The screen will just hang with the status of Printing showing on the screen. It becomes non-responsive and we have to end up hard booting the workstations. Has anyone ever experienced this or have some things I should look at in Micros to resolve it?

What type of printing do you use? IP, IDN, etc? If a workstation is not connected to the network does it still have this issue printing locally?

Can you confidence test from micros utilities? If so you have a software not hw problem.

This trick worked with a similar issue at some sites in the past, assuming you are dealing with WS4/5/5a not WS6:

On the WS where printing fails, rename the SYShardwaresetup.dll to .old and re-cal the terminal. File can be found in the DOC folder on the workstation.

Have you tried recreating the MDShost and MDSPrinter files in the common/bin?
Rename the old files a .old and reload the micros control panel.
Presto 2 new files.
Copy to the micros/etc in the (workstation) cal folder

Thanks for the tips. I have not done any your suggestions but will run them by my reseller. We use the serial printers directly connected to the workstations which are all on our POS IP network. It happens randomly on different workstations. Not always the same workstation.

I will give the above items a try and report back.
