I've just taken over as a system administator and our Micros RES 3700 system is constantly going down and needs a reboot of the server to get things up and running.

The server is running Windows 2000 SP3 with an Intel Xeo 2.80 and 1,048,088 kb Ram

There is 13 terminals connected

The control panel is running V3.2_SP1 (3.2 SP1 hotfix 1 build 3.2.37.598)

Any idea what could be causing this?

Does the system display a particular behavior (terminals locking up, actual server locking up) or is there an error messages that comes up?

Terminals lock up and the server appears to be ghosting (When I look at it in the morning the desktop background is white but when I move the Micros control panel around the screen the proper desktop background comes back)

Is there anything in the event logs that might help? My first step is always finding out whether its a micros application, the database or something else that's causing the lock-ups.

Where are the event logs in server 2000? What should I be looking out for on the logs?

Have a look in the d:\micros\res\pos\etc\3700d.log file.
You will have a file for the current day and files for the past 7 days.

These should help you diagnose the issue.

Having looked at the log files, I'm constantly getting the error

ERROR: CLIENT_ACTIVE notification [0x0182ACF0] for node [ICT-DEPT] processed with error [1722] unable to establish/maintain RPC connection to client [ICT-DEPT]

Getrpcbindinghandle(): Failed immediatly: node 'Aine-Accounts'rpc if rpc3700d guid E9F92A00-847E-11CF-B9C2-0080C82BD9D5 version 1.1 server unavailable

that message is fine.

That just means that the computer called "Aine-Accounts" has micros applications installed on it and is currently attempting to connect.

its an annoying message but nothing serious.

Try and focus on the errors your getting at the exact time of the crash
