Can someone please tell me:
-what is Main Level and Sub Level
-when do you use POP UP
- RVC Transactions / Menu Levels -how to these get put in there? and Default trans links to what:

I can create a HH (or whaterver) and link it to the period and MI level but cannot find anything on main and sub.
Sub has to do with the pricing 2-10??? in menu items??

At times the help screen is useless.
Thank YOU !!!

A somewhat easier way to do Happy Hours is to set up automatic discounts for the family group in question.

You just need a Menu Item Set to define the items, a period to define Happy Hour, and then automatic discount definitions which adjust the price instead of showing a discount.

Be warned though - there are some bugs with automatic discounts in the 5.x series. 5.2 MR3 or 5.4 should have them all fixed.

What DJensen999 said is straight forward. But here's the description from the Help section. Not sure it will help...

Main Levels
Name: These descriptors define the name of the menu level. They display on the UWS screen when the menu level is active, and they may appear in a selection list when the menu level is changed. Format: up to 8 characters.

Prefix: These names display and print before the name of any menu item (first name or second name) that is ordered on this menu level. Format: up to 4 characters.

Suffix: These names display and print after the name of any menu item (first name or second name) that is ordered on this menu level. Format: up to 4 characters.

Sub Levels
Name: These descriptors define the name of the menu level. They display on the UWS screen when the menu level is active, and they may appear in a selection list when the menu level is changed. Format: up to 8 characters.

Prefix: These names display and print before the name of any menu item (first name or second name) that is ordered on this menu level. Format: up to 4 characters.

Suffix: These names display and print after the name of any menu item (first name or second name) that is ordered on this menu level. Format: up to 4 characters.

So POS/RVC/RVC Transactions/Menu Levels
Main and Sub are included in shell and can only be renamed?
How does system know which menu and sub to allow a menu?
I get the auto menu level is linked by rvc but menu levels just aren't linked anyplace??
Are they defined in the RVC Trans screen?

Each menu item has settings for Main Level Link and Sub Level Link. You can define a Main Level Link and Sub Level Link for each Menu Item, and yes Main Level Link and Sub Level Link are setup per RVC.

For instance, the site I am at has a Restaurant that offers Happy Hour Prices for Drinks and Tacos. I have a few Menu Items that have second sequence numbers. The 2nd Sequence numbers have the Happy Hour Main Level Link checked, all others are unchecked. The 1st sequence of the same Menu Item has the Happy hour Main Level Link unchecked. The Happy Hour Link has a time set to be active from 16:00 to 20:10 (4pm to 8:10pm). So this Menu item is only visible at this time. I can also setup the Main Level Link for this item to end at 15:59 and start at 20:21, however I do not as it is still sold inside. To make it a little easier the Happy Hour Items are set to a Happy Hour SLU, on a specific button. This helps the bartenders locate the correct HH items instead of having to search through other items. Also, makes it so the discounted beverages and food isn't sold on the side when it is not Happy Hour.

It may sound like a lot to setup at first, but it can come in handy when used properly. Hope it helps in understanding. We also have a late night menu setup using Main Level Links.

The auto levels determine what Main and Sub Level combination is active at any given time of day by RVC.
The Menu Level Class assigned to each menu item determines when that item is available.
The Menu Item Class determines whether to always use Price 1 or to use multiple prices based on the active levels, (enable prices 2-10). It also determines whether to use the main or sub level for pricing.

Personally I like to use the Main level for availability and the Sub level for pricing. This way you can have many different levels of availability, (breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, happy hour, late night), and still use only 2 levels for pricing, (reg & hh)

I can see how that would be a better setup.

When you utilize availability like this you have the options "use 2-10 prices" and "use sub for prices" right?
Is this where you would use the sub in 'Auto menu level" ?
The 'default trans level" and 'pop up to sub" options only seem to deal with service rounds???

Thank you again!
