Micros 3700 network speed

I have a WS4 that is on a 2.3 mbps connection back to our main database (3700 v5.1). Although this is not ideal, it seems that it should be more than adequate. The speed is slow but the connection is solid (no drops). Anyone have first hand experience with running a workstation connected to a database across a slower connection like a WAN (like DSL or similar) ?
