Are there any SV 8500/ MG-PRI Experts out there? I need some clarification on something... If i have an SV 8500 that is DC powered am i able to use an MG-PRI stand alone unit that is AC powered? My vendor is telling me that if i want to use an MG-PRI unit that i have to do a voltage coversion on my rectifier. Is there any reason i cant run the SV off of the rectifier and an MG-PRI unit off of AC power with a UPS? My vendor states that if a SV is DC powered the only way to add PRI is to either add a PIM/PIR/Gateway Chasis or do a voltage conversion to the MG-PRI box. Vendor also states that if the SV is AC powered, then this is not an issue. I am absolutely confused. Why would the MG-PRI box care if the SV is powered via AC or DC? Someone please shed some light.

Thanks

The only benefit to converting it to DC is that you can have it backed up via the rectifier batteries. A separate UPS will also provide battery back up.

Thanks for the quick response... But operationally, it will still work right?

These are 2 separate boxes (the SV and the MG), and they don't care about how the other one is powered. It's your choice. I have and sv on DC power, on top of which sitting and MG on AC power, plugged into an AC wall outlet. They are happy campers in the same rack.
