thought i might share my way of connecting to remote sites which might help some of you and make life that bit easier.
80% of my sites are pure ip trunks so dial in is not an option. what we do is obviously open the management ports on the router using port forwarding to include:

50794 udp - monitor
50802 & 50804 tcp - manager
50808 tcp SSA
50812 tcp Security
69 udp - tftp

we then set up ip routes to only respond to our ip addresses and the sip provider, so no unauthorised access attempts.

but the annoying part is compiling a list of ip addresses for each site which you have to reference first and may not be accessible. what I do is open manager search, enter customer ip but then enter the customer name. e.g. 88.88.88.88 MyCustomerName

You notice that as you type the MyCustomerName bit the Refresh Option appears and dissapears depending on the number of characters, not sure, you can get up to 13/15 thereabouts. So next time you open the search and select the drop down list of recent IP addresses you will see the list of site names. Very handy.

If you change your pc you have to start again as I'm not sure where these file lookups are kept - maybe someone else can help with that bit.

hope this helps some out there.

Nice tip.
I have one for you too.
Open manager and go to file -> Discovery
Then in the field "IP search Criteria" enter the external IP addresses split by a ;
When you enter them all then it will first broadcast to those addresses and then do a local broadcast.
This will show you all the systems you have put in there.
Try and see if you like it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Excellent tlpeter. i wouldn't put all my sites in there but definetly the most commonly used ones. very handy:)

It's best to use the "Known Units" file for this, once you have connected the first time it keeps a list of the address the name the MAC etc, you click the system you want and it connects to that IP....easy, you can also email the .csv it creates for other people to use. Shame it's broken in 8.1 (doesn't auto update) but they will fix it :)

Logmein.com
Very simple.

Spring for the upgrade to Logmein Central and you get a distribution link that makes installation of remote access a snap even for unskilled labor on the far end (in a pinch). It also allows you to have subcontractors or other setup access without giving out your remote access credentials. It also has the added benefit of easy remote access from anywhere you can get an internet connection, including smartphones and tablets, which have dedicated clients.
