I use MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger about once a week. Over the last 2 weeks, I keep getting the following message
We could not sign you in to MSN Messenger because there is a problem with your .NET Passport.
Click OK to learn more at the .NET Passport Web site. 0x81000303
After clicking OK I get the message
You have made too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts with an incorrect password for: .....
Microsoft .NET Passport has made your account temporarily unavailable to help prevent other users from guessing or obtaining your password.

Anyone know what causes this? Is there a "nasty" out there which trys to log on to the Messengers?

[cheers]

Very simply, the .NET network is too busy or your computer doesn't have enough bandwidth...

Thanks for the reply ... but why would either of those problems return a, "too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts" error, on my first attempt to sign-in for over a week?
Also, after getting the error message, if I change or reset my password & am always able to sign-in.

So it's like something or someone is trying to gain access, using incorrect passwords, while I am not signed-in.

[cheers]

I have found both hotmail and messenger to be very flakey recently on a few different machines - i would agree that it is a problem with the network as well - if you are worried, change your passwords when you finally gain access!

Kesser ... I do and a few days later when I try to sign on, the same thing happens [hairpull2]

Hmm.. well I can only recount the problems I and my customers have recently had... and they have been plentiful :) Hotmail crashed my machine on every attempt to access for about two weeks recently and my technician has been unable to use messenger as no-one can see what he types... this is why i would say it is a problem with them. However... I take it you have throughly checked your machine for viruses, spyware, keyloggers etc. ?
