Messaging upgrade - 6 port to 12 port

After our 6 port Merlin Messaging r1.1 module died, I bought a used 12 port r2.5 module. I added six additional lines to the messaging calling group, but when the first 6 lines are in use, callers get a fax tone instead of the messaging options. We're using Merlin Legend 7.0; can anyone tell me where I went wrong?

My first plan of attack would be to make sure that the correct ports are assigned to the correct calling group. It sounds as if you may have an error in your port assignment.

Are you sure you got a Merlin Messaging 12-port? Does the license card actually say 12-port on the label? Did you perform a board renumber after installing the new Merlin Messaging? I'm pretty sure the Legend sees the 12-port Messaging as if it was a 016 module. Be careful with the board renumber as it will renumber all stations in modules to the right of the voicemail.

Messaging should come up as a 16 port board and if it is a 2.5 or better you should see all 16 ports as 12 for voicemail and 4 for announcements. the pcmia card in the messaging is the license for the ports. there is no need to renimber anything if it was already working because the system will hold those extra ports already. it should just be a matter of power down, replace pcmia card, power up and add the extra ports to the vm hunt group and rotary enable fields.

I assumed the licenses were in the board, and I didn't replace the PCMCIA card, so that's where my problem lies.
