Messages Not Showing, Mail Not Sending - Microsoft Mail

My wife just got a new Dell laptop running Vista Business edition. Her Outlook Express 6 is not available for Vista so we went to Microsoft Mail which was included with VISTA - I guess it replaced Outlook Express. Sometimes all the messages are gone. You click on a folder and it says there are no messages. If we shut Mail down and reopen it several times the messages will sometimes show. I imported her saved messages from OE 6 and those folders show as imported folders. The messages in those folders are also not there when the current ones are not there.

We also have trouble sending emails. Again, closing and reopening the mail program several times will usually fix the problem.

Anyone have any advice? We can't live with these problems!

What antivirus software is installed? Generally speaking Windows Mail is more robust than OE. Do you still have the old OE mail files in case you need to re-import? If it's not a virus scanner, I suspect WM is possibly having a security related issue with one of the imported messages.

Using MCAfee virus protection. I have the old OE emails saved on a CD so I can reimport them.

Thanks

Is this version of McAfee compatible with Vista? Is there any difference in behavior with it disabled. Be very about what you open while testing this!

Could this perhaps be the View, Current View, 'Hide Read Messages' setting? (which is also available directly near the upper right corner below the search bar).

smah,

I really appreciate your help! The current view setting is set to show all messages. When I can see messages, I can see all of them - it's either all or none.

The McAfee came loaded on the new computer along with Vista from Dell, so I assume that it is the right version. I will do some testing with it on and off today an let you know the result.

Thanks again

Hey gking - did you ever get this figured out. I just set up a new computer for my relatives and of course now they cannot send any emails. I am not local and trying to solve this from a distance - ahhh the trials of helping family with their computers.

Any info you could provide would be helpful.

Thanks!
