We are running Exchange 2000. Certain messages are getting stuck in the outbound queue. The messages in question will take anywhere from 1 hour to 2 days before they are delivered or it fails, while other messages are sent fine. I have researched this issue and have trying everything. Is there any one that can point me in the correct direction?

I have the same problem....funny thing is those messages stuck was already received by recipients and keep on receiving (multiple copies) until they were removed in the queue.

Turn on Diagnostic Logging for the IMC You will then find eventlog entries which will help you pinpoint the problem.
My first thought would be to look for a DNS resolution problem, have you a DNS server in your network and does the IMC check this for address resolution first or are you sending outbound mail to an ISP,s mail server

One of our clients has this same problem, but they say the messages get stuck only SOME of the time, in other words MOSTLY ALL of the messages going to OUR servers DON'T make it here. Those other few, are stuck in the queue for 2 or 3 days and then the message comes back to the sender with the dreaded error "host unreachable" I would understand the messages not getting here ALL of the time, but only some of the time? It would seem that the DNS is working, because it gives out the ip address right away, could it be the fault of the ISP? Your help is appreciated like always. Click.
