I am sorry if this has been asked before. I am new to legato Networker and I just took over this job.

We have both Networker for NT and Unix. The messages and daemon.log files are too big. the messages logs are over 100MB and the daemon.log files are about 2MB. I saw some old daemon.log files named daemon.001, daemon.002... Are these daemon.log files automatically rename their name when they got too big or need to be manually rename them?

How can I rename the messages and daemon.log files?

Thanks.

The networker deamon.log and messages is meant for trouble-shooting and tracing purposes, if u think u don't need the files and want to do some housekeeping, u can stop the networker services and remove those files, it will recreate when u re-start the networker services again. U might want to script it.

I routinely move the logs monthly to old log directory within NSR and then let Networker re-create it by restarting the services.

You can delete the messages file at any time.

NW will actually create a new instance of daemon.log when
- the current file is greater than 1 MB AND
- nsrd is restarted
Up to 4 archive files (daemon.001 .. daemon.004) will be kept.
