I have the Norstar Voice Mail ICS 4.0 system. The "message waiting" is not showing up on someone's phone. I thought maybe when the phone's voice mail box was added ,I answered "No" for when the "msg waiting?" part came up. I went back under Feature 983 to change it, but that part never came up. It went from "Directory?" then went to "Outdial:none". Its like it disappeared! I checked other voice mail boxes and it's still there! For some reason it is not showing up on this phone. The voice mail that is working comes up on the screen as: ext 222, then service class 1,name,directory: Y,msg waiting Y, outdial (none), Alt1 ext: (none), Auto Logon: N, msg line (none),and xfers blind. The voice mail that does not come up on the screen shows like this: ext: (none),then service class 13,name,directory:Y, outdial:(none),msg line:(none).
Should I delete the voice mail box and start all over again? Does it have anything to do with the programming side of the phone? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

does class of service 13 allow for message waiting? I don't have my COS cheat sheet.
try a different COS.

I tried another class of service. Class of Service really doesn't have anything to do with the message notification except if it is off-premise, which we do not use.

hmm..
is this just something that started happening recently? Has the box ever had message waiting?

If not, then it was probably set up as a guest mailbox instead of a subscriber mailbox.

you will need to rebuild it.

The previous employee had no problem with the box. She always received her "msg waiting" notification. I deleted the box then added it as a user mailbox (which it was before). I'm pretty sure that I didn't enter it as a guest mailbox.
We seldom use guest boxes and it is a different way of setting it up. I've been doing this for 5 years now, and this is the first time I've ever had this problem...I guess the only thing to do now is to delete everything and start over...

Soemthing may have become corrupt in your memory. Try deleting the mailbox, adding a new mailbox but make it a totally unique number (seperate from the extension). Make sure you put the proper extension in, and message waiting yes

I don't really know about feature 806 and how it correlates with the voice mail. Could you please explain? Thank you.

Go to the phone and do F#806 and see what happens. This feature was used for single line display phones so they could see the Time & Date instead of the Message for you display.

I went to the phone and did F806 and it just said "static time on" then went to display the time. I also did it the other way F#806 and it said "static time off" and went to display the time. I'm still not sure the purpose of theis function. We have our time on the display of all our phones, but when someone gets a message , the display will read "message for you". I tried both ways and left a message but nothing showed up.

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions! I went and deleted the voice mail and added it back in again. We had a power outage that made the phones go dead a little while back , so maybe since this was the last phone I programmed, it must have done something to it. Everything is working great at the moment! Thanks again!

I am glad to hear that the problem has cleared. Having just read you question I was going to suggest that you rebuild the mailbox from scratch AND reboot the entire system. Either way, glad to see problem resolved
