Message Waiting light SIP

Hi, I have a 7960 running on a SIP platform and I cannot turn off the message waiting light, even though there is not a voice messaging system associated with the phone. How do I get that light off?

The phone was sent to me from a friend, and perhaps there was a voice mail on the phone when it was unplugged. He hadn't used it in 3 years.....and then sent it to me.

I don't know what platform you're on, but on CUCM for example, there is a Voice Mail configuration section that has two or more MWI DNs - one for on and one for off. You can turn it off by simply dialing the appropriate DN from the phone. Note that you may need to modify your calling search space or partition to be able to dial that DN from your phone.
