I can not turn the message waiting lamp on via MIK. I have configured the analog phone cls mwa lpa.
what's the problem?

Do you have a message waiting 500 card installed? Not all 500 cards can light the light.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

John, since it'a an analog phone, how can i define a MWK on an analog phone?

Ace, the analog phone line card is NTAR04BB, a normall one.

The set must be attached to a NT8D09 card. The NT8D03 is an analog card without message waiting.

This will tell you which card you have or you can look at the face plate.

Only things required on the 500 set are

CLS = MWA LPA

I am assuming you have MCI in OPT in the cust data block.

tnphoneman,
my machine is located in China opt61C, the card is NTRA04BB, appended below is my configuration,

Here is what I was able to find...

The NTRA04AA Flexible analog line card with high voltage message waiting provides an interface for up to 16 analog (500/2500-type) telephones lines. It can be installed in slots 1 to 10 in the main cabinet and in any slot in the expansion cabinet

Notice it is an AA vintage here in the docs. Try making the set LPD and see if they get broken dial tone. Are you trying the MIK from here or in China?

If you are trying it from here there are othe things to look as such as PNI in the RDB which will have to match on both ends and you also have to be able to dial the number from here without an access code. EG..CDP.

try another phone or port on the card, may have a burnt out lamp or bad port

tnphoneman, my machine is a single system without connecting with other systems. I'm trying MIK in China on a 2250 set which is also attached on this machine.
maybe, I should check the license, analog phone license is CLASS TELEPHONE. I was told that class telephone might not be compatible with message waiting indicator feature.

Be sure they are operating the feature correctly....

Press the MIK
Dial the DN
Press the MIK

You know after researching some more the Nortel site says that the AA vintage card is an Option 11 card. I can find nothing on the BB vintage card.

Just a thought, but I've had polarity problems with analogue message waiting lamps before, have you tried reversing the polarity/pair.
