Our Exchange Server developed some sort of problem yesterday and we are still trying to figure it out. Any insight would be helpful.

When we try to start Outlook, we get the following error:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook windows. The set of folders could not be opened.
Upon reviewing the App Events, I find the following errors:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: MAPI Session

The MAPI provider failed.

We have determined that there is no problem with the network that we can detect. The interesting this is that there is no E0004A00.log file. It is looking for a file that does not exist. We regularly delete the log files or they will grow to consume all disk space. Why would this all of a sudden create a problem when it never has before. Any thoughts?

You should NEVER NEVER NEVER delete those files. If you have a properly configured backup solution, the log files will get flushed when the backup completes.

Try running eseutil /mh on the applicable database.

Check if the mailbox store is mounted. Check for the exchange service if running. If mailbox is mounted try excessing email from OWA rather than connecting with exchange service from microsoftoutlook.
