I am trying to customize the email quota limit Systems Administrator message by using a tool called ResHack and editing the mdbsz.dll exchange DLL. I have the message that I want to send working fine, the only thing I can't figure out is how to turn off the High Importance setting so the user doesn’t see the "!" in their inbox. Anyone know how to set this to normal importance?

Thanks in advance.

Greg,

How did you go about editing the mdbsz.dll, and what message did you create?

Thanks,
Joseph

Thanks, but that tool is not supported in a Windows2003 Exchange clustered environment.

The tool I used is called ResHacker (Google this to find the lastest download)
Open the mdbsz.dll using this tool and edit message table 1033. Be careful and test using a test server as xmsre points out this is unsupported by Microsoft.
After configuring and testing we have had this on our live exchange 2000 box for over a month with no issue.

NOTE: Note: Use of the Quota Message Service on Windows 2003 Servers that are configured to operate as nodes in a cluster, is not supported, unless the issues reported in the cluster environment can be reproduced in a non-clustered environment."

I'd prefer that to breaking the EULA. All it really means is that you have two choices:

1. Install it on each node. It's up to you to start/stop when you failover because it's not cluster aware.

2. Set it up as a generic service in MSCS. It's up to you....

I'd just go with number 1, put a note on starting/stopping in your local ops guide, then any issue you have would be one that could be reproduced in a nonclustered environment and you're good to go.

Normally, I would agree with you but the boss has spoken and his choice was to doctor the dll.

IF the boss said to shoot your co-workers, would you?

It's your butt on the line if your company gets busted, not your boss'.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.
