hi guys-
im very in depth on windows, not so in depth on citrix

here's the situation:
you go into the citrix program neighborhood and double click add ICA connection
select tcp/ip from the dropdown list
when you click the down arrow on the server list, it returns an error "The ICA Browser did not return any server names. You can enter server addresses in the address list for the application set if there are no Metaframe presentation servers on your local subnet"

I was told this started the day before I started this position.

If I go in and specify an IP instead of using the auto-discovery, then it will find the servers (note that this does not work by name or anything).

Tried checking the box to allow cthe server to respond to client broadcasts...didn't work

DNS is fine, as too is registration in DNS (there was a problem initiall with that but I already fixed that, problem still persists)

Thanks guys :)

I have seen this many, many times... if you specify the data collector in the address list at the bottom of the screen, it will then display all the published applications in the drop down box that are published on the farm (I only use the Data Collector to be consistent). I have never been able to get this to work properly without telling the client where to get the information manually. Also, you may need to change the protocol to TCP/IP rather than TCP/IP + HTTP. Not sure how else to get this to work!!

thanks mike

well i am using tcp/ip only

and i get the error regardless of whether i do the dropdown list for servers or published apps

im not so sure i beleive it just happened

my thing is that im trying to get it to auto locate

i can fix by going into program neighborhood|file|custom connection settings and specifying the server IP, but thats all

in fact it doesnt even work by name...not sure if thats by design though

checked over DNS

in fact, just rebuilt it when I started here last week because of this problem that was happening and another that occurred

Hi,

Just to replicate your "Checked over DNS" comment, you have added a forward entry named "ica" and entered the correct IP?

Cheers,
Carl.

no i have not

i was told it didnt need it by someone...said it just needed the fqdn registerd in dns for the citrix boxes themselves

i will create a A record named ICA with the IP and see what happens

thanks

is this supposed to be a cname or host record?

Hi,

In my DNS server I've got an enter in the fqdn folder, directly below "Forward Lookup Zones" and entered a new host record.

This then resolves the issue. I'd say that you definately have an internal DNS issue.

Hope this helps,
Carl.

ive done that already as well...didn't do the trick

DNS is actually working great...i'm very in depth on it so it of course was the first thing I checked.

I know the cname record isn't working, and niether did the host record

anyone got any other ideas??

Stupid question...have you tried going to another machine and pinging "ica" to make sure it resolves to the right server? Make sure it's pointing to the master citrix server.

yep and it does resolve

Not sure what to tell you. When I set up our Citrix servers I was told by a citrix cert to always put it tcp/ip and the server ip address, since the whole [ica] thing was iffy. I just put in my main citrix servers IP address and then I can see all published apps.
