Hi Jpoandl

I SEE YOU ARE ONE OF THE MORE EXPERIANCE SMS USERS. wONDER IF YOU COULD HELP. i HAVE INSTALLED SMS 2003 ON A NETWORK WITH 20 SUBNETS. WHEN i DISCOVER THE NETWORK IT ONLY PICKS UP 5 SUBNETS AND DOES NOT SCAN THE REST. iN THE PROPERTIES OF NETWORK DISCOVERY THE 5 SUBNETS HAVE LOCKS NEXT TO IT. wHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THE OTHERS DONT. FROM THE SMS2003 SERVER i CAN PING THE OTHER SUBNETS AND COMPUTERS IN THAT SUBNET BUT THE NETWORK DISCOVERY DOES NOT RECORD IT WHEN i DO A NETWORK DISCOVERY. I KNOW SMS USES ICMP SO IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP.

ANY IDEAS.

I WOULD BE GREATFULL FOR ANY SUGESTIONS.

THANKS

discovery is by SNMP, DHCP and Browse
set snmp community, set hops to 10 besure to select the gateway of the site server as the router

It will use the arp cache and discover other subnets

set to discover topology, client and OS

then rerun

HI Guys

Thanks for the responce. Firstly I have installed sms with advanced security so there is no dhcp tab. These subnets are connected by firewalls that only hold its arp for 20 min then it clears it. There is about 500 pc's and I cant go to every one of the because of the geografical location. I thought that sms uses icmp @2000mls for it to discover so it should beable to pickup all the subnets and all devices in that subnet. Oh yes I have set it to discover topology, client and OS but it is still not picking it up.
