I am setting up a new Voicemail card. (Merlin Mail R1). Outside calls that are not getting answered or that are coming in after hours are not getting sent to Voicemail.

The calls should be going to the General Mailbox (9991). but they are going to extension 7116 (???) I set up a mailbox for 7116, but calls are still not being directed to that Voicemail. Also, I would like to just get rid of 7116 and have them go to the General Mail box. What am I doing wrong or not doing all.

Thanks!

Just for clarification.....Is the voicemail the stand-alone wall mounted unit...or is it one that slides into an available slot in a 5 card carrier? The system is supposed to let a human answer first and the auto attendant second?

Something I've done with the Merlin Magix I installed/support is define a mailbox (790) as an auto attendant, pointed the telephone lines to it and have the mailbox do a time-based overflow to group 7929.

The Voicemail card slides in to a 5 card carrier. Call rings a few times at the receptionist then goes to the general mailbox during the day and one ring and directly to general mailbox at night.

My voicemai extension is 770. Not sure what you are talking about with 790???

c8c5dPhoneGuy,
Was your OLD voice mail external(stand alone), or did it also fit into the carrier,
770 is you voicemail group, You said your setting up a NEW voicemail, what probably happening is extension 7116 is the first (old voicemail) extension.

Go into
System program
Start
Extensions
More
Grp Calling
Members
(key in) 770 (for voice mail group)
enter
Inspect

It will list what it thinks your voicemail extensions are, if they don't match the NEW voicemail extensions, you'll have to remove them as members of 770, and add the new extensions in their place.

It was also in the carrier, same carrier slot too!

I think I understand what you are saying, but does it matter if I am dialing 770 to get to the NEW Voicemail Card?

So you are saying that I will have to delete 7116 from the group and add 9991 and other extension to the group?

I mentioned 790 as that was the group I selected to point my incoming voice lines to and have that group do a time-based overflow the group 7929 for the auto attendant.

I did a re-read of the OP and it looks like unanswered calls are supposed to go straight to a mailbox rather than being answered by the auto attendant. Am I close [ponder]

Yes right on unaswered calls are suppose to go the general Mailbox Extension 9991

c8c5dPhoneGuy, you said
I am setting up a new Voicemail card. (Merlin Mail R1)
Do you mean Merlin Messaging R1, I thought Merlin mail R1 was a standalone unit.
If it is Merlin Messaging R1, the system assigns 12 extensions (only 6 are avalible) to it.
What was the old voicemail system?

c8c5dPhoneGuy were you able to check group 770's members?
Is your voicemail the last Card ?
Are you using WinSPM, or the console to program?
If WinSPM print an Extension Directory
Code:
Sys Program
Start
More
Print
More
Ext Direct

Then look at the port Addr, the first number is the card's position in the carrier (the processor is considered slot 0)
So if it's the in the last slot on the first(or only) carrier, it have port address 5/ 1 to say 5/12, the extension number next to those port are what needs to be added to group 770.

If your using the console, it's a little bit more difficult.
from the programming phone,
Code:
hit menu
Sys Program
Start
Sys Renumber
Single
Extension
single
Inspect
that will show you your extensions in slot/port order (hit more to scroll through multiple page if necessary)
You'll just need to count extensions in the cards to the left of the voicemail module to determine where its extensions start.
If you have an idea what the voicemail extensions are, you can try dialling them directly, you mentioned 7116, it might be around that.
Once you find the correct extensions you'll also want to "rotary enable" them so it can turn on/off message waiting lights.
Code:
hit menu
Sys Program
Start
Extensions
More
More
RotaryEnabl
<first Vm extension>
Enter
<second Vm Extension>
Enter
<repeat for all Vm Extensions>
enter
Hopefully I'm helping, not confusing :)

To figure out the extensions on the voicemail card, it is far easier to go to Maintenance, Port, Station, dial * and 2 digits for the slot number, and then 01, Enter. You can then press Status, and use Next to step through the extension numbers assigned to the card.

We can't really tell the OP much without knowing what the voicemail card is. 007MLM Merlin Mail or Merlin Messaging.

And you can NOT have a call go directly to a General Mailbox, 999X, that can only be achieved by having the call go to an Auto Attendant first, and the Night Dial-0/Timeout option goes there (although you can set other selector codes to go there, and if you have phantom extension capability in Merlin Messaging, another mailbox can play its greeting and record into a General Mailbox)

Dang I love you guys :)
(I mean that in the platonic "you guys are great" way )

Okay Guys all of the above got me pointed in the right direction...thanks

However, here is more information and better details:

I have AutoAttendant 1 set up for "Dial 0 timeout Method" to Leave a message in the General Mailbox. I added all lines needed to AutoAttendent1. However, Outside calls are ring 5 to 6 times (as desired) but the message says, "Your call is know being transfered to the operator." I need this to go to the General Mailbox which I have set up and created the desired message of, "Thank you for calling such and such we are unable to bla bla bla please leave a message in the General Mailbox and Bla Bla Bla..." I also created the same message in the Auto Attendant and I am not getting either one when I call in to test.

I did the whole deal from above to find out what extensions where assigned to the VM card and 7116 is the first extension that does not A: Have a phone assigned to it (This meaning it is not set up) and B: does not meet the buildings extension plan. (I am using three digit numbers that match the room number.) There are 13 of these in consecutive order.

What am I doing wrong? or What am I leaving out?

Are you in KEY or PBX/HYBRID mode?

Go to Extensions, More, Group Calling, Line Pools, 770, Enter

Now dial each line number and enter, or the pool number that they are assigned to and enter.

Also check that each voicemail port is assigned to group 770, and that the group is set to Linear, and Integrated VMI

Check each voicemail port through Centralized Telephone Programming, to see if they have any LINES assigned to them, and if so, make sure they are set to NO RING

TouchToneTommy...
I entered 770 in the Group Calling. I tried to enter 801, 802, 803, 804, and 805 (my lines) but only the last two took. I did an inspect to find that out.

VM group 770 is set to Linear and Integrated VMI.

I am not sure what you mean by or possibly how to check for the last...Unless you tha this checking to see if any extensions have line directly assigned to them, if this is the case there are non. I have done that in the past.

I would also like to add, and probably should have from the start. This is not a brand new system...Just new VM card that was replaced with the same exact model as the old that crashed. I would guess that that all the phone setting would be correct and that there is a problem with how the Voicemail and/or Auto Attendant are set up....Am I correct in thinking this or what is my deal.

If it picks up but isn't do as it should in the vm, it because your VM doesn't know how to route the call.
from within the VM system :
you need to depending on VM version, create a mail box XXXX with a class of service of 15 (AA1),
or designate extension XXXX as an Auto Attendant

With XXXX probably being the operator's extension number.
