Merling Messaging with Unified Messaging problem...

I'm hoping that someone out here has seen this problem.

I have a Merlin Magix, rel 3 system with Merlin Messaging, Release 4. Everything works well, except my UNIFIED MESSAGING (running the SMTP method, NOT the EXCHANGE method).

I have everything set up correctly, both in the merlin messaging and the PC/Unified Messaging software. After someone leaves me a voicemail message, the merlin messaging system sends the e-mail to the unified messaging PC. The message, in perfect mail format (I can open the message with outlook express), goes to the HOLDING directory and stays there. The easyMail SMTP process are properly running and the log file indicates error "2000-3" <error connecting to mail.bellsouth.net>.

I'm feeling that this is because bellsouth.net does not accept SMTP messages on port 25. Has anyone successfully set up the mail forwarding to Bellsouth.net, or has anyone successfully used a mail forward service (for which you pay a small annual fee) in this applicaton? Again, I feel like my setup is fine, just that the EasyMail SMTP service cannot get to bellsouth.net (or any other ISP that I have available to try).

I know that there are probably not too many people using this product, but any assistance is appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your reply!

It's probably in the UM Setup. I've been using Partner Messaging, which is exactly the same thins, and It's one of the goofiest things I've ever dealt with. Once working it's great, usually. Avaya uses non-standard terminology for what tey call a domain, etc. If the message stays in the holding directory, it's probably a naming problem. It's not bellsoouth.
The acid test: See if you can get it to send to your PC as a .wav file. If you can, then it's just naming. If not, it's not set up right, even though you've followed the directions. Also, mone was working fine on Win2000 workstation, but not since switching to XP, it's acting like it doesn't know what to do.

Thanks for your input. I found that my problem was simply that my virus protection software had port 25 blocked for outgoing SMTP messages. The minute I opened up the block, all of the messages in the holdling folder went out. It is really great and very reliable. I'm very happy with it. Even the setup, except the port 25 issue, was really simple.

Thanks again for the update.

I've been bitten there as well. Glad it's working. Do you have a list of the registry entries for this app. I can't reinstall, as "it" thinks there is already an installed version, and there isn't.

Sorry, I don't have a list of registry entries, but I do know that I installed and uninstalled mine several times. Each time, I used start >control panel >add/remove programs to uninstall it.

I also used the unistall script in the c:/program files/unified messaging directory. All of these methods worked fine. Additionally, I had to manually delete the c:/program files/unified messaging directory after uninstalling. Finally, you might need to reboot after removing and deleting the directory. Mine is installed under Windows 2000 Professional.

Good luck
