Good afternoon to all...Here is my dilema..I have been asked to program mailboxes and the auto attendant for a remote Merlin messaging sytem that will be replacing another system that is not currently working. I have been given access to the "new" system and was able to create mailboxes for extensions and setup the auto attendant. Now I am being asked to cutover the new system and do not have a clue as to go about accomplishing this task. The old system is still currently in place, is this just a matter of changing a access number or coverage path. I forgot to mention that my experience with Avaya..Merlin is slim to none....Any direction or help is much appreciated!

get someone local to help you, that is much cheaper then spending days on troubleshooting and then afterwards fighting to get your bill paid.
telling you from here how to cut over is a guessing game as we don't know what is on site and how the entire setup is.
I am not daring enough to even attempt
Or is what you did just the voicemail part of it and all you need to do is reassign the voicemail ports to the new voicemail??

I totally agree with you on getting someone locally to get this done but unfortunately my Sup doesn't see it that way. I am able to call the office main number and hear a greeting with menu options but I can access the Avaya Merlin Messaging system administrator and that is where I was able to create mailboxes and the AA. How would I reassign the voicemail ports to the new vm? Is there a doc. that is on Avaya's site that might help?

The Merlin Messaging docs are on the Avaya support site, and cover installing and programming the Legend/Magix as well.

What is the current system that you are replacing?

If it is also a Merlin Messaging, it will be a straight swap.

If it is something else, like an 007MLM, and it is not the last card in the carrier, you will have issues with extensions located downstream from the voice mail card.

If it is different, and you leave the failed voice mail card in the system, and put the new Merlin Messaging in the next available slot, you can unassign the old ports from the voice mail calling group, and assign the new ports instead.

And, what is the release of the switch that the Merlin Messaging is going into? It needs to be a Magix, or a Legend R7, because of the need to set the ports to Rotary Enable.

The current vm system is apparently on a PC and is being replaced with Merlin Messenger R4 card on a Magix system. How would I go about unassigning and reassigning ports? I am assuming the card is in place since I was able to program mailboxes and the AA..just a matter of the ports?

you need to print the group 770 (most likely) in that you will see the members of the group which are the voicemail ports, then you need to unassign them and reassign the new extensions that you have on your merlin messaging that you can probably just add at the end of your system.

I have a magic legend with a merlin messaging 4.0. my customer came in the morning and the auto attendant was answering the calls on the 4 ring as programmed, and transferring callers to the station they dial but the stations do not ring. just happen from one evening to the next morning. no program changing and the voicemail has been working for a couple of years.
I have checked all setting, called each channel of the voicemail, there is 6, all answers. is this a voicemail issue or phone system. have rebooted 3 times, same thing every time. if the caller is getting to the voicemail and then being transfer to the station, which device tell the station to ring. does the voicemail send codes to the phone system then to the phone.
I guest I would like a to know the sequence of this task
thanks

Telco71 - start a new thread if your question doesn't dovetail into the current thread.

Can you call from extension to extension within the system? Because transfers from the auto attendant are no different.
The voice mail ports are simply single line stations.

Instruirmi,

No one has asked the pertinent question:

What release of MAGIX are you dealing with?

Tell us that, and we may have an easy way for you to program the Messaging at least.

Trying to program a MAGIX with ZERO Knowledge, will become a TOTAL DISASTER for you, your company, YOUR SUP and of course your client.

We really need more info, and you really need outside help.

NOTE THE PUNCTUATION MARK AT THE END OF THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE.

IT IS A PERIOD, and that's what I am saying.

"YOU REALLY NEED OUTSIDE HELP PERIOD!"

Turns out the "new" Merlin Messaging was running in surrogate mode with the existing messaging system that had the issue. All I needed to do was simply change the pilot/access port/ext from old (slot 3) to slot 10 and make change to coverage group. Just want to give thanks to all who responded. My expertise is mainly Nortel but have learned so much about Avaya from this forum and it's professionals that are willing to share their knowledge. Thanks again to all!
