Merlin Messaging R.? - Is there an option to send a broadcast message to all mailbox's? I briefly looked at the users guide and couldn't find anything. Thanks!

Through the admin menu (#7) you can set up 10 group lists (50-59)which are accessable by all users and an individual user can have 10 of their own (1-10, 50 users in each)I usually tell my customers when setting the groups up to include their own extension in a personal list so if they send a group message and they get it they know everyone else got it unless they have a full mailbox.

Use with caution, especially if you have Automated Attendant. You can really bog down the VMS if a large number of users try to login and retrieve messages at the same time.

I may have an older release because I don'thave an option #7. I log in with 0# then password and option 7 is invalid. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Dialing 7, after you log in as the administrator will tell you then answer to "Merlin Messaging R.?".

BUT, after you log in as the administrator and PRESS 9. then 7 should be your GROUP LIST option.

I understand MM! That is what I'm doing and there is not an option #7 given after dialing 9 . So dialing 7 will give you the release info? Thats great to know! I must have a R.1 messaging! I was reading that R.1's do not have system group lists. Only R.2 and later. I did log into a mailbox and each user has the option for personal group list though. This will sofice for the customer. Thanks for all the input!

A comparison of Merlin Messaging model numbers with their original corresponding software revisons:

Model Rel Notes

617A49 1.x No Ethernet support. Upgrade=Replace board
617B49 2.0 Supports GUI admin. Some upgradability from 1.5 via hardware changes.
617C49 2.5 Begin upgradability all the way upto 4.0 w/"one time use" PCMCIA card
617D49 3.0 Supports Unified Messaging and 617E49 4.0 Bells & Whistles. Last manuf. version

This is only a guide, of course. Obviously it's important to know how to retrieve the software version via the Admin mailbox since upgrades could skew the relationship with the board's model number.

But this little note is still handy for those times that you need to punt (which backdoor password to use, for example).

Please add/correct any of my notes here.
