Merlin Messaging software Backup and restore 1

My customer has a 4.0 MM that is crashing, and I can do a backup and restore now on his system. I found a 3.0 replacement for him. Will the backup on the card for the 4.0 be placed into the 3.0, when I get it, and be restored to the 3.0?

I'd like to do a full backup via the admin software, if I can, instead of the PC card backup, but the software won't load on my Win 7 service pack 1 computer. I've tried the different settings utilizing the Control Panel "how to run old programs" settings, but it won't install. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Not so sure about restoring R4 messages and call flows to a R3 MM.

You can however download Windows XP Mode from microsoft and install.
winSPM will install and run after that.

Windows xp mode will only work on windows 7 professional, enterprise and ultimate.
If you don't have one of those versions, you can use VirtualBox to build a windows XP virtual machine, you'll need XP install disc, and a valid activation code, you'll also need the extension pack for usb support.

He should be able to set you up with an inexpensive R3 to R4 upgrade.

I don't think you can build a MM3.0 using a MM4.0 backup info.

It might be better if you could get a MM4.0 as a replacement.

The answer is NO, It won't work to you MM change from 4 to 3.

Also, to do the BACKUP and RESTORE operation from the OLD to the NEW, you will need to establish a LAN between your LAPTOP and the MESSAGING UNIT. It's not difficult to do, just MANUALLY set the Messaging at one address above the LAPTOP. i.e.; LAPTOP = 192.17.127.70 and the Messaging (using the serial port) to 192.17.127.71. Then, connect the two with a CROSS OVER Cable. (Source MERLIN® Messaging Administration Getting Started)

You will need to "telnet" in from the COM port (8 None 1) to add or change the IP address on the MM 4.0

The default IP address of the Merlin Messaging is 10.0.0.42, and it's unlikely that it has been changed, unless it is currently on the customer's network. Start by changing the IP on your computer to 10.0.0.41, and see if you can connect.

I was trying to keep the price down and my very reliable vendor didn't have a 4.0
So Merlinmann and touchtone, I can do the backup and restore via my computer assuming I have a 4.0 to 4.0, right? Or it can be done 3.0 to 4.0? Is this utilizing Putty or the administration software that I'm having trouble getting to load on my computer?
If I read the posts correctly, I cannot do a backup and restore using the backup card in the system now, and bring it to the replacement 3.0 and restore, correct?
This voicemail only uses voicemail boxes and no auto attendant. I will probably login to the old vm and write down how its programmed and just manually program the replacement. Just looking for the easiest way.

If you're going from one release to another, you can't backup and restore to get it done.

But, if the system is still running, you can use the software that XrayboX linked you to, (run the correct version for each system), and save the Auto Attendant greetings as wav files. Document how everything else is set up, and then start from scratch on the new one. Finally, you can upload the wavs to the new system, and your users just have to start over on their mailboxes.

the card will allow you to backup programming, but not any messages, and you can only use it for like versions R4>R4 or R3>R3
as for installing software, if you have windows 7 professional, enterprise or ultimate, "XP mode" is a free download from Microsoft.

How do you recover it when it crashes and is the MM4.0 circuit pack located in carrier #2 by any chance?

Pap, the vm is in the second carrier. The customer is telling me the vm is resetting itself, so the vm hard drive might be crapping the bed. He wants to replace it regardless.
There is no auto attendant, but I'm going to get the xp mode software on my computer ready anyway.

Before you spend your time and money, test the power unit at peak usage (11am to 2pm), if it's even slightly marginal replace it.
I would also re-seat that MM board and visually make sure the carriers are properly connected .
