I have a Merlin Messaging 4.0 module with a 2-port card, and I need to upgrade it to have 6 ports. What sort of 4-port card do I need to buy? Is there a certain model number I need to get, or will any of the 4-port cards I find out there work? Also, is there any system configuration changes that have to be made, or do I just plug the new card into the open slot?

Thanks,

Michael

You actually need to purchase a 6 port card, and install that in place of the 2 port card. Then you can sell the 2 port card to someone else.

After you plug it in, you will need to add the next 4 extension ports to the voice mail calling group, set them to Rotary Enabled, and match any calling restrictions that have been places on the original 2 ports.

For the port card, you will need one of these:

I know there are a few things you will need to do get the 2 new ports up & running, but I'll defer to someone who has done it before.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Don't forget to make the additional ports/extension ROTARY and add them to the "Calling Group".
Test each one seperatly by dialing into them..They should say "Welcome to AVAYA Merlin Messaging" and you will see the green LED start to flash on the circuit pack.

I installed the new 6-port card today, and it works beautifully. Six green lights all in a row.

The problem is with the extensions. It appears that I only have extensions 148, 149, and 150 set up for my voicemail already from the 2-port card configuration. On the printout from the system, the extensions after 150 are listed as 7151, 7152, 7153, etc. How do I go about adding the three more extensions that I need?

Here is the part of my config that deals with extensions:

After I get the extensions all set up, I am guessing that all I will need to do is add them to the voicemail calling group (770) and make them rotary-enabled. Anything else?

Thanks for all your help.

Michael

You can just leave them as the extension number that they are, 7151, 7152, etc. These are the default numbers in "set up space". You can also refer to them when programming as *0503, *0504, that is, Star and 2-dits for the slot and 2-digits for the port.

Otherwise, you can renumber them under System Renumber, Single, Extension, then the old number and the new number.

Peersonally, I renumber the VM ports to 601, 602, 603, etc. so I can simply know what extension number to dial to test a certain VM port.

Not sure why SysRenumber didn't occur to me.

Thanks a million for all the help, Tommy and the others. Everything is working wonderfully now.

All the best,

Michael
