First, I apologize for this rather 'long winded' post.
I'm fairly new to the Merlin Legend/Magix/Messaging system here at our facility. I've been taking care of the 'basic' needs (i.e. replacement of dead phones & re-location of extensions) for the past year. In that time a few issues have surfaced for which I'm lacking knowledge to handle.
The equipment (Hybrid/PBX mode) installed is:
1 - 511A; Control Unit
2 - 391C1; Power Supplies
1 - 403H; Expansion module
1 - 617Y33; Processor,CKE5
1 - 10A4; Trans Card
2 - 617F29; 408 GLM-U
2 - 517B29; 408 GS/LS-MLX
5 - 517A21; 008 MLX
1 - 617E49; Merlin MSG; S/N: A02DR0437797 (4 port card in slot)
1 - 517G13(28); 012
I have WINSPM Rel. 9.0 on a laptop that can be used to access the Legend/Magix system (Magix 4.0 V 7.0) and have done so to get the system inventory as well as doing a system backup. But that doesn't provide Messaging access/management.
Problems I've encountered, and for which I need assistance/guidance, are:
1) We are in a relatively isolated part of the country (way northern Michigan, 49913 - the U.P. for those more familiar) with little 'local' support. The original vendor no longer exists and another, who is supposed to be an Avaya Partner company has not been regularly responsive (multiple contacts to them over the past year with limited or no replies to requests for assistance).
2) Some extensions, including my own (which was formerly a 'hallway' phone) have no access to voicemail. Either because no voicemail box exists or because the former owner didn't remember their password - and the mailbox is full.
3) I'm confused as to how to access the mailbox system so that I can inventory what extensions have mailboxes, 'reset' passwords where necessary, and establish voicemail boxes for extensions as needed. I've tried accessing from the System Console (receptionist's phone, an MLX20, Ext110) but unsuccessfully. Documentation I've got (Merlin Messaging System Release 4.0 System Manager's Quick Reference) from 'previous' management shows (information handwritten at the back of book):
Press 'ICOM RING'
Dial '770' (for general mailbox system access?)
Dial '0#' (for receptionist/system extension)
Enter 'Password#'
At this point the system tells me I've got the wrong password. I've tried many #s from management suggestions as well as the default and a couple of numbers scribbled on documentation.
I guess other mailbox issues could be resolved once I gain access (i.e. change message/greeting, backup, etc.)
I've been reading a lot on this site to update the gray matter at the top of my neck and am very appreciative of all the great assistance/help I've seen demonstrated here. My feet are still in the quagmire, but at least my head is above the flood.
