Ok, so I found out how to initialize a password and it was done to a specific extension. Now I tried to use the default and that hasnt worked. I believe the defualt is 1 thorugh 6 (Default). That hasn't worked so I tried the opposite and that hasn't worked. What else can be happening?

It's either 1-2-3-4, or you are prompted that "your password is too short. You must choose a new password" upon your initial login.

tried that and it says "login incorrect".
also, tried ext#, then #
tried ext#, then 1-6
tried ext#, then 6-1

Log into system admin, and it will tell you. I beleive if you press 7 it will also tell you the software/firmware releases.

You "tried to use the default" - what? What is it you are trying to do?

I went into Admin for Merlin Mail and initialized the password for an extension. I then went to the voicemail for that extension but any passwords did not work to retrieve the messages off that extension.

The reinitialized password for the extention is just the pound sign (#) - nothing else. You may need to reinitialize it again - just to be sure. After you do that - dial into voicemail, enter the extention number abd # sign, wait for the password prompt - then key in just the pound sign. You should get in and be prompted to create a new password.

If it's a really old Merlin Mail - the reinitialized password may be 1234 followed by the # sign.

Did you go thru the reinitialization process a 2nd time? I would do that first and then try to get in using just the # sign at first. If that does not work - dial in again and try using 1234 followed by the # sign.

tried 3 times and then 1234#.
still nothing.
And yes, it's quite and old bag.

Try to get into the mailbox from a different phone. Sometimes the Merlin Mail and newer models do not correctly recognize the touchtones from some phones. If you can find out the specific model number of thge Merlin Masil - that would help determine the correct reinitialized password to use. The Release of the Merlin Mail should be marked on the lower left edge of the unit's back - where all the port lines plug in.
