merlin mail Port allocation

Does anyone know what "extra steps" need to be taken when you want to split the port allocation on a 6 port Merlin Mail so 2 are call answering service and 4 are used for auto attendant service? The manual says it can be done but that special instructions need to be followed. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You can set port allocation under "system parameters" - which is Choice 1 after entering programming from the "system administrator's" mailbox.

Yes, it allows me to set the parameter to "split" but is there any additional programming required to make the split allocation work? The manual says there are extra steps to take, but it doesn't list them.

I'm not sure why you would want to split the allocation to begin with. Setting some ports to "mail service" you would ONLY do - if you wanted to provide a dedicated line or lines for people to call - to get directly into voicemail. Most people dedicate all lines to the AA - and have callers who want to get to their voicemail remotely - press *7 as soon as the AA answers. The allocation parameter was originally designed only for the 4-port version - and it was an even split. I assume it would be 3 and 3 split for the 6-port.

You would need to program an additional VM Calling Group for the voicemail service and give it only its ports and lines. You would also need to remove the ports dedicated to voicemail service from the main voicemail calling group - which routes callers to the autoattendant.
