I need some help with my Magix system, I have yet to get the T1 in yet but I would like to have the system ready to go once I do. I am getting a PRI brought in with 8 voice channels and the rest is data. I also will have 1-800 number and 8-DID's.

What I am trying to figure out where I enter in DID's and how to route them. One of the DID's I want to send to Auto Att #1, another I want to send to Auto Att #2, and the rest of the DID's I want to assign to seperate que's. Here is what I have done so far.

Sys Programing --> LineTrunks:
LS/GS/DS1 --> Slot 4:
Type --> PRI
FrameFormat --> ESF
Suppression --> B8ZS
Signaling --> Robbed Bit
Line Comp --> 1
ChannelUnit --> FX
TT/LS Disc --> LS Disc --> Yes
PRI --> SwitchType --> Slot 4 --> 5ESS

Where do I go from here to route DID's and actually add them to the system.

Well I am not getting anywhere with our service provider, I can't get in touch with anyone that knows what kind of switch they are using, I just assumed it was a 5ESS. I don't get why it is not working I am now at the point where I get a fast busy when I dial a number.

well I know what the problem is now, from what I think. They are sending me the PRI in NI2, which from what I read is not compatable with the Magix. So I am going to call them and see what I can do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Who is the service provider??

At this point you need to find out what was ordered from the service provider, because if things don't match they won't work. If the info is not correct, you may have to issue a change order to correct it. But most of all, you need to get a contact in repair to work with you. If all else fails, open a trouble ticket with repair and have it escalated to a supervisor to get some action.

The reason you get a fast busy when attempting to place a call is probably caused by the channels in maintenance busy mode in the CO switch. If you reread my remarks in the previous post about the D channel, this is why!

Most providers leave this type of service in maintenance busy until the customer is ready to test and turn up service. This is pretty much standard practice at least with the Bell companies.

And PRI ISDN has to have something terminated on the customer end to communicate with, otherwise the switch will take it out-of-service anyway.

I am on the phone with a tech right now he says they can do a 5ESS emulation so that I what I am going to do. Here is a print out of the error log and I guess the PRI is not in service from what the tech told me, so I am going to have them turn it up to test.

Make sure that the D channel, trunk #832 is NOT part of any Pool or anything else! This can cause problems if it is.

Glad to see you are making progress with your service provder.

....JIM....

well it is finally working i got fdn to do 5ess emulation and i can now make outbound calls, the numbers have not been ported over yet so i can't test inbound calls. so now i need to go through and configure my que's, DID's and auto attendents. are there any directions on this stuff? i want to make 2 of the did's point to auto attendents, 1 i wnat to point to a fax extention, and the rest of them i want to point at que's and have users be able to login and out of those que's

Jon Manning

All that info is covered in documents and manuals that can be downloaded from Avaya's website, that would include User Guides also.

The Feature Reference applies to both Legend and Magix. This is very comprehensive since it provides feature interactions too.

Happy reading!

....JIM....

okay i got the guide and I am trying to add lines to the did menu but it will not let me if they are in the PRI --> b channel --> lines menu

what do i do? do i leave the in the pri menu or add them to the did menu?

Jon Manning
President

Jon, the DID number block your service provider assigned your customer will use the same 1 thru 8 channels on the PRI for traffic in both directions. This is what the "Incoming Routing: By Dial Plan" does. You just need to assign the three or four digit feed that the CO switch sends to the Magix. For example if the number is 212-555-1234, then if it is a three digit feed the MAGIX would receive 234, and if 234 is assigned to a station, a que or AutoAttendant, then it would ring when 555-1234 is called from outside. That call would be setup on one of the 8 channels in the B channel group that you built.

This is also true for your INWATS (800/888) numbers, those digits sent are sometimes refered to as DNIS (Dialed Number ID Service) digits. If the provider did not give you those assignments, you will need to get them.

....JIM....

Okay well I think I have the did stuff figured out, I haven't been able to do it and test because our office is on the system using it. But I can't figure out how to create a fax extention. I need it for an analog fax machine, I did see in the manual where I can program a fax extention as Aux Equp. which I did but the fax is not getting dial tone off of it. It seems like it is still a digital signal, is there a way to hook up a regular phoneline fax to the system?

Jon Manning
President

Assuming you have a 012 or 016 Analogue Station Module in the system, just renumber one of the unused ports to one of the DID numbers that you want to use for the fax and change any other options as appropriate.

Which manual reference are you using that shows fax as Aux Equip?

....JIM....

Okay well I have got the programming down on this system but I want to do something that I have tried to do and I can't figure it out. Here is what I am looking to do.

I want to take a DID number and route it directly to 2 phone which will both ring when a call comes in on it.
After that if it does not get answered I want to send it to our operator.
I am assuming this is possable but I don't know if I want it in a Que or how to do it?

Jon Manning
President

Oh I was also trying to figure this out.

I have our main number come into an auto att. and there are some options there, one of them i would like to make a dial by name directory.
How do I do that? so some one could enter 564 for john doe and get transfered to him?

Jon Manning
President

There are a few options you can use to do this. If the DID number is a stand alone, not primary to either phone, then you would use an adjunct port, aka PHANTOM, and renumber the port to the DID. Then setup your parameters for Forward No Answer, etc on this port. Next you can use Shared System Access (SSA) buttons on both phones you want the number to appear on, or you can use Cover buttons on each phone for the DID number.

To understand the interactions and limitations of these features look them up in the Feature Reference. Then you can decide which one or ones will best do what you want.

You could use a Que, but I prefer using SSA and/or Cover buttons. They are more flexible in most of the applications where I have applied them.

*Merlin Messaging* I haven't set one up, but if it is similar to the Merlin Legend Mail, then there is a menu item for The Directory - *2. The reference document for MM would cover all the parameters for using it. This feature is something you have to include in your company greeting menu, otherwise there is no prompt for it. Each mailbox can be included or not on a per mailbox level. Using the feature usually includes transfering the call to the wanted party.

....JIM....

Well I figured out the auto att. that is working just the way i wanted it.
Now I am trying to figure out this ssa, I am pretty confused on how to program it.
I see that I need to program a button on the phones that are going to "cover" the phantom ext.
So this is what I am thinking, I want to take ext. 541 and point my 2041 did at it, I can't figure that part out.
once i get that done, i tell ext 541 to forward on no answer, which will send it to the phones i program with a cover button, to cover ext. 541.
So how do i tell those phones to cover ext 541?

I am thinking the right way, or am I way off?

Jon Manning
President

Is 541 the phantom? If it is then you need to renumber that to your DID 2041.

Are your numbers a three or four digit feed on the PRI?

You may have to make some Dial Plan Routing Table changes if you have a three digit feed since station numbers can't begin with ZERO.
