have a magix that was down when we came in this morning.
red light on the processor, no display on the sets and no dial tone. we powered-down and rebooted and got the same result. powered-down again, reseated the processor, pulled all of the cards except the CKE5 and the 412 and still the same result. Power supply on magix was green also.
we ordered a new cabinet, processor, 412, and 100dcd that will arrive in the morning. im thinking the processor is bad or the backplane/cabinet? with no records on this current system how can you know what the actual version or release of software is? Any suggestions on when we reboot tomorrow to make sure everything including the translations restore?
Heres what we currently have:
cke5 processor, 412, 024, 100dcd, mm, 016 analog
thanks

First off, with a dead system you can TRY to use the part number at the top of the Processor.

It's 617 ?? 33, with the ?? being the true indicator of the SOFTWARE version (MAYBE).

The exception to the 617 numbering standard would be the Release 4.0.

It has an ODD BALL number; KX-PRV40V70.

The MAYBE kicks in if someone had upgraded an earlier processor to a different release.

The 617 ?? 33 scheme can be found at Avaya's website in the POCKET REFERENCE to the Release 3.0 Magix.

thanks merlinman you are awesome
one problem im having is im trying to restore but keep getting an error that says control unit strap is in key mode and it wont let me change to hybrid pbx?

tanks man

On the CKE5 processor it's not a strap, it's 2 mini-switches located on the circuit board near the edge connector.

Which ever way they are set, move them the other way and that should take care of it.

You may be able to recover the config from the PCMCIA card if it did not get wiped out. That could save a lot of programming and guessing.

....JIM....

OK, I had to reprogram the magix because the version of the translation card did not match the new processor release (v7 r4). When I tried to perform a restore there was a mismatch between the new processor and the old flash card. So I have the new processor installed/running with the old flash card still in it. Can I back-up the re-programming to my laptop so when the new flash card gets here today we can power-down to install?

Thanks in advance.

Please anyone who installs systems leave some kind of documentation with the customer!!!

I'm fairly sure you can save configurations to a computer, but did you try to save the new configuration to the existing PCMCIA card?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I assumed since the card would not restore due to a mismatch that it would not back-up either. I will try this afternoon and let you know.

Were you able to back up the configuration to the PCMCIA card [ponder]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

so far i've just backed-up the translations to my laptop. today i'm going to install the correct flash card into the processor and wondering if it can be done while powered-up?

one other question: they have o/h paging and i've assigned it to trunk 802 and set-up a pool (4) with only that trunk in it. how do i assign the pool to the extensions? They have a general pickup button that it used for two purposes:
[1] pickup & 0 to cover the operator extension.
[2] pickup & 4 (pool number) to page.
thanks in advance

Power down before swapping out the PCMCIA. As long as the 2 batteries or capacitors on the processor are charged the programming will remain intact.

I'm not sure about the paging question so I'll defer.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Remove 802 from pool 4, renumber pool 4 back to its default, then renumber 802 to 4.

The paging code will be #94, or put that pickup code on a button.

You can also assign trunk 4 directly to the extensions, but then you're restricted to the rules about where and how you can assign lines to buttons.

thanks t3
if i renumber 802 to 4, can they use the general pickup button then touch 4 to page? Before the crash that's what they were able to do (press pickup and 4 to page). As far as buttons, they are using 4406's that have no room for additional features like a paging button.

Again Many thanks.
