Merlin Magix Compatible Analog phone list

We are need of some used analog phones for our Merlin Magix System, since we are buying around 50 phones, I want to make sure they are going to work with the system before purchasing. Does anyone know where I can look at a list of compatible analog phones for the 016 T\R module?

basically any phone that will work on a regular phone line will work on a T/R module.

Single-Line
Telephone
Industry-standard touch-tone or rotary dial telephone that
handles one call at a time. It is connected to the system via
an extension jack on an 012 (T/R), 016 (T/R), or 008 OPT
module; or, in Release 7.0 and later systems, via a port on
a 412 LS-ID-ETR or 016 ETR module programmed for tip/
ring operation.


(All modes) Current 012 (T/R), 008 OPT, and 016 (T/R)
modules have built-in ring generators and are compatible
with earlier releases. The 012 (T/R) module [517J13 (28)]
has a ring equivalency number (REN) of 2.2 and rings only
four ports at a time, although eight jacks can be used for
applications. The 016 T/R module (517C34) has a REN of ≥
4, can ring 16 ports at a time, and has no restriction on the
number of jacks that can be used for applications. The 412
LS-ID-ETR and 016 ETR modules (Release 7.0 and later
systems) have a REN of 3 and can ring all tip/ring ports at the
same time.

On older versions of the 012 (T/R) module (apparatus codes 517C13–
517J13), only four tip/ring devices connected to the module can ring
simultaneously, regardless of how many jacks are open. Using more
than four devices can cause the devices to operate incorrectly.

The only time I have ever had a single line set not work was because it was a really old school single line set. These sets are heavier than the normal single line set and the Magix did not have enough power to ring them. As long as you are not buying old phones, you should be fine and the Magix will work with them.

Ok, thanks for the info. Now the task of scavenging the net to try and find some cheap phones. This is a temporary solution as we are going to VOIP in about 6 months.

Telcomboy You must be talking real old, I found a old (1970's) bell phone, thought for sure it wouldn't work, or at least wouldn't ring, man was I surprised, works just fine

We have used cortelco phones and they have work fine. You should be able to find new analog phones, even at office supply stores for around 20.00. We got some analog phones with message waiting light and 4 programmable buttons for around 60.00

Jayjoker,

Electrically the 008-OPT circuit pack is different than the 012 and 016 cards. For most analog phones and most fax machines all 3 of these analog cards will work.
The exception I’ve found are “auto dialing” weatherproof phones typically used at security gates. These analog phones require a specific amount loop current to run them and will only work on the analog 008 OPT cards.
