Currently our company has a Merlin Magix system set up with on a standard PRI. The company is considering changing over to a company called NuVox which offers a full PRI and 768K expanding data connection delivered of a single T1 by using VoIP. I don't know the details yet on what router NuVox uses other than that it is Cisco equipment. Has anyone had experience getting a Merlin Magix to work on this setup? I am assuming just as long as the Cisco device is configurable to emulate whatever type of telco equipment that Magix expects to seem there shouldn't be a problem. Any advice is appreciated. thanks!

Mike

I have had (3) customers (2 with Legend, 1 with Magix) who have changed back to traditional PRI service from VoIP with a Cisco router due to dropped calls, dead air when dialing out, and dead air when dialing into the pbx. No problems since. Hope you fair better.

Well, I just helped a person doing POINT TO POINT with a Cisco Router and their issue was they had problems making OUTGOING calls from switch A through switch B to switch B's Local and Long Distance service.

They had just changed from using MERLIN NETWORKING to using simulated 5Ess CO's, with the Cisco Router.

There was no mention of DROPPED CALLS, but I am sure they really do not have much call volume.

Either way, the fix for their issue was to use REAL Remote Access to allow such calls.

Let us know how you are trying to use this.

Point to point or what?

I just installed a Magix with an ISPN PRI simulated VOIP circuit. It's a great idea but the provider is having a problem routing international calls. The Cisco router port that connects to the Magix DS1 has a tough time waking up after a power outage. Make sure you have a T1 crossover cable from the Cisco Router to the DS1 board (flip wires 1,2 with 4,5). If they emulate an ATT 5ESS using NI2 you should be fine.

Thanks for the responses. Was trying to get a feel for how smooth of a switchover this would be and this helps a lot. I did the programming for the PRI installed about a year ago, (with help of some docucemts from here actually) but if the company still wants to go through with this I may ask them to hire someone to do the cutover (I'm the IT person and only have a general knowledge PBXs). Merlinman... point to point would be like a dedicated line from one office to another right? We only have one location so this would just be a T1 that provides us with phone service.

Mike

Yes Mike, point to point would be like a dedicated line from A to B.

Are you saying your company has these two locations presently on a MAGIX, UDP Network?

If so, it is my understanding that if you go VOIP with the Cisco Routers, you would only have to nail down the 24th, or "D" Channel.
