Question 1:
1) I have a computer sitting right next to the Merlin Magix system that has VoiP capabilities and is an extention of the main office phone system (which is located in a completely different state). You plug a regular phone into it, dial 9 to get out of the system it is connected to, then dial normally.

Instead of plugging in a phone to this computer, can I plug this line into the Merlin system and have the Merlin system tag that line as the primary one to use when placing a long distance calls?

Alternatively, is there some way I can just add the line the pool of lines it has?

or Alternative to that, put the line on a 'dial 8' trunk group?

Question 2:
Our office Merlin system used to have 4 incoming lines. We cut back recently to just 2 lines. Can someone tell me if the inputs labeled 01-08 are still all being used, or do those inputs not correlate to the lines going into the system.

Thanks.

Q1 - plug the line from your computer voip phone into an available line port of your Magix, assign it to a pool (say 895), set extensions you to be able to dial to the other facility, to have a dial out code of 895. Those extensions then press 895, and if not busy, get VoIP dialtone.
Q2 - Ypur inputs 01-08 correspond to the line id's 801 - 808. If you have cut back to two lines, check your dial out pool (probably 70), and remove the lines whose ports are empty.

Thanks for the response...

excuse my ignorance, but I have a few followup q's

Q1
a]Physically, *where* do I plug the VoIP line into the Magix?
b] How do I assign it to a pool (895 or any)?
c] Followup: should I specifically *not* assign this to pool 70? How about if I want it to come up with the user dials 8?

Q2
I have already removed the lines from the 70 dial out pool. I'm just asking if there is anything in the Magix that can be disconnected becuase it is no longer in use.

Q1-plug it into one of the available line ports of the Magix, maybe use one of the ports you disconnected earlier.

Q1a-Say you disconnected the "top" line on the first card, that would be line ID 804
Q1b-Sys Prog > Start >Lines/Trunks >Pools > enter 895 as the pool, and add 804 to that pool

Then:
Sys Prog >Start> SysRenumber >Single > Pools > renumber 895 to 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 depending on your dial plan
If you use 7 or 8, then everything else in the system that begins with 7 or 8 has to also be renumbered.
Q1c-do not assign it to pool 70, with a two line system, every third outbound call would try to go out the VoP trunk
Q2-I'm assuming you mean trunks coming into the system. The easiest way to tell is to unplug the trunks from the Magix, plug them into a household telephone, and see if there is dial tone. If you come across a line that you didn't know about, (typically do) then ask a lot of questions to see what purpose that line was supposed to serve. If no one knows, and you've asked all, ... and I mean this, unplug the line, and see who complains. If nobody complains for a month or two, disconnect the line from your telco.

Well, I have made some progress...

After a bit of rooting around, I determined that 803 and 804 were no longer active.

I plugged the VoIP line into 803. When I select the line key "803" (a special key that someone has wrote '803' on) on the command center phone, I get the VoIP line. At that point, I just need to dial 9 to get out of the remote phone system, and I can make a call (Alternatively, I can dial an extention on that phone system). However, I am only able to select line 803 on the command center phone. Normal extensions cannot see or use 803.

I tried the system renumbering as you suggested, but all that did was make 803 un-usable for the command center phone as well.

So, here is the thing. I'd like to make this VoIP line easy to use for users at normal phone extensions.

1) How do I edit line 803 (the VoIP line) so that users get that line when they dial '8' (or some other single digit number)?

2) if line 803 rings, can I make it ring at all phones that are normally assigned to ring? (option 1)

3) if line 803 rings, can I make it ring at all phones? (option 2)

4) In either case can line 803 ring with a different tone?

Your system is set up like a key system, so assign line 803 to as many phones as you wish:
Sys Program >Start >Extensions >Lines Trunks
Enter each extension and then add in 803.
It will appear on the next button past the second system access key.
You can set it to ring, no ring, or delayed ring on each extension.

"Your system is set up like a key system, so assign line 803 to as many phones as you wish:
When I follow the menu system as you described above, I get to the point where I type in my extension number. But after that, I have no idea *HOW* to add this extenion to 803 (it is not clear from the display how to do this)

Also, which button is 'next button past the second system access key' supposed to be? *IF* you mean something like:

first access key = 801
second access key = 802
(and thus) new third access key = 803

Well, our extentions access 801 and 802 by pressing 9. The system automatically selects 801 or 802. I do not know how to force an extension to select 801 or 802. And thus, have no idea how to force the selection to 803 either.

And if you meant something completely different than that, them I'm even more lost.

In a PBX mode switch, the lower left key is a System Access Ring, the next up is SA-Voice, and the third up is SA-Orininate. When adding the lines to the extensions, the 4th button up is where the lines would typically added. The Magix assigns the buttons by itself, and can be kind of tricky when trying to put line 4 on button 8, etc., can be done, but tricky.
In your case, you are adding 803 to a particular extension, here's how: Sys Program >Start >Extensions >Lines Trunks, enter extension that you want to have access to 803, and your then see a screen with 20 buttons on it. Each button is a "line", and is added by pressing Shit+Fx where x is the line number. To add 803, press Shift+F3, 804, Shift +F4, etc. That should help a little.

I clearly have a different type of extention than you are describing - there is no fourth button up. Our extentions look like this

The 3 buttons along the top are (Conf | Transfr | Redial )

the 6 buttons below that are labeled (in the order they are arranged)

1. SA Originate 2. Cover Ext100
3. SA Voice 4. Feature
5. SA Ring 6. Do not Disturb

And then below that is the keypad.

The method you describe for adding the 803 to each extension sounds to me like you are making these changes with a PC and some sort of application. I do not have a PC connected to the system, so I am still unsure how to go about doing what you describe. I am using one of the command phones, like the one in this picture:

You have the same type of extension, your buttons are numbered. Buttons are numbered from the bottom up (who knows why?), and on your left column it's 1,2,3 going up, and on the right column going up is 4,5,6. If you follow the procedure, your 803 should end up on the bottom left button, which is button #4. You cannot add lines to a phone from the phone, you must use either a PC with WinSPM or the Operator console - 4424 LD+. Using the 4424LD+, you can do the same steps as if you had a PC.

Success!! Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. I got 803 to show up on button 4 on 2 entensions now, so I think I have the hang of it. The procedure I followed on the 4424LD+ was:

Entensions->Lines/Trunks->Dial ext no. ->Enter->Entry Mode-> Dial line/Trunch no. -> Enter -> Back -> Back

Now the bad news. I really messed up the first entension I did this on, and I don't know how to fix it.

Issues: While other phones automatically pick up 801/802 when you uncradle the handsetl, this extension now requires the user to select button 1,2 or 3. Also some non working feature is programmed at button button 4 which I can not get rid of, thus every time I try to add 803, it ends up at button 5.

I tried used the procedure for 'Copying Feature and SA/ICOM Buttons' from a correct entension to the incorrect one, no dice. and I tried the procedure for 'Copying Line/Trunk Button Assignments'. No dice there either.

Any suggestions?
