I have a Merlin Legend and I wanted to reduce the amount of rings from 7 to 4.
Also, when it's in the voicemail, I want to reduce the amount of rings at the extension from 6 to 2.
I will be programming from the system telephone, not via computer. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I am sorry, I am not sure which rings you are trying to change, and what you mean by "when it's in the voice mail".
Do you mean number of rings before a call goes to coverage to voice mail? "the amount of rings from 7 to 4" ? Before what happens? Before Automated Attendant answers?

We will need to know the release of Legend you have.

On any MLX Display phone press INTERCOM (SA), Speaker and then dial *05.

The display will provide you with the release and version.

Once you post that, we can advise further.

Well, assuming you are trying to reduce the number of rings before an extension goes to voice mail, there is something you can adjust in the Legend R7.

COVER DELAY:

You can adjust the amount of PRIMARY COVER, Secondary Cover, and GROUP COVER. Usually just adjusting the GROUP COVER will take care of your issuse.

But, if you have other people covering a particular extension, then you may have to putz with Primary and Secondary.

OR, if you are trying to control some other delay, then we may need more info.

That is exactly what I want. I want to reduce the amount of rings before and extension goes to voicemail.
And, reduce the amount or rings before going into voicemail when a call is placed into the office.
Do you know the codes of how to go about changing this?

It depends on how your delay to voicemail is currently setup. If you are using an "overflow" group for the delay to the voicemail autoattendant - then you need to adjust the seconds of delay time for that overflow group(about 4 seconds per ring).

So - first we need to know how the existing 7 ring delay (before the voicemail autoattendant answers)is set up. If you are using overflow - you need to know the overflow group's extention number to adjust the delay time. That same group will usually have the lines covered by voicemail attached to it. You can find out which group - if any - is handling overflow by doing a "print" of the Group Calling information - and then looking at what, if any, group is overflowing to the voicemail group (usually 770 or 777). Look at the seconds of delay. 7 rings would be about 28 seconds. You need to cut that to about 12 seconds.

The second delay you mentioned (how long a phone rings before it goes to a voicemail box is adjustable per extention using the "group cover delay" option under extention programming. You can set that per extention to a specific number of rings.

How do I check how my delay to voicemail is setup? I will be using the mlx20 phone.

It's hard to check anything without first printing information out - so you know what you have set up currently. You will need to get WinSPM and install it on a laptop to print any information out of the system. There are various reports available that will help you tremendously. What modules are in the system? If you have an 012 Basic Telephone or 016 T/R module - you can connect your laptop via an open port on one of those modules. If you do not - then you will need to buy a 355AF adapter and a DB25 to DB9 converter. Do a search on WinSPM in this forum.
