I am trying to set up this Merlin Legend with Merlin Mail. Right now it is set up so that a couple phones ring at the same time when there is an incoming call (ext. 18, 20, 23 where 23 is the front desk). There are other extensions that do not ring on an incoming outside call so I assume there is some kind of calling group set up. I don't know how to find out what that calling group is.

What I want it to do is have the automated attendant pick up after 3 rings (outside VM picks up after 4, it has not yet been disabled). Right now, it does not seem as if the system knows the Merlin Mail is even there. I am stuck because this manual does not expect you to have a second-hand system apparently.

One last thing. While trying to figure this stuff out, I must have stumbled upon a Dial 9 to get an outside line option. If you dial 9 when you have an inside dial tone, it becomes and outside call. This is bad because I cannot access the voice mail administration anymore (ext 9997)

Thanks in advance.

Well, you are going to need to determine the voice mail ports, put them into a calling group, designate it as "Integrated VMI", make it the cover group for phones with voice mail, set up a delayed call handling group for the lines that you want to answer on a delayed basis, assign the voice mail hunt group to cover the delayed call handling group, and create an auto-attendant mailbox so the calls will be answered properly.

The "dial-9" doesn't have anything to do with logging into 9997 for administration, because you will need to dial the Voice Mail calling group number (typically 770), and after VM answers log in as mailbox 9997.

Considering all that needs to be done to set this up properly, my advice would be to find a local installation company familiar with the Legend, pay them to set it up and get it running, and have them train you on how to do the ongoing administration.

Good luck!

To Make sure that your system is seeing the VM card:
- Maintenance
- System
- Inventory
Hit More until you get to the system slot that should have your VM. The system will see the VM as an 012 or 008 module.

Before you can configure a Calling Group (VM Ext. Number) to use Integrated VM, you have to assign the VM ports as Rotary Enable by:
- Syst. Prog.
- Extension
- <Hit More twice>
- Rotary Enable
- <Enter the VM port extensions numbers>

Once you have done this, you could configure the Calling group to use the VM ports as members and to Cover a Group Cover Number.

The Group Cover is a group that contains all the extensions that will be covered.

You can change the number used for the Administration port under the VM Administration, but you do not really need to since you will never call the administration port. The administration port is used inside the VM administration. You can administer the VM by calling the Group Calling Number that you setup above. Once the VM Administration answers, you enter the administration number and password. After that, in order to get the advance options, press 9. Depending on the VM, you may be required to enter a password.

My advice is for you to use WINSPM at the beginning and setup the advance stuff later through the operator console.

Hope this helps,

I don't know how to do the rotary enable thing. Thats where I got stuck. Also, when it try to make the calling group Integrated VMI, it gives me that beep error like it can't do it. I am thinking because the calling group is does not have rotaray enable?

Before you can configure a Calling Group (VM Ext. Number) to be Integrated VM, you have to assign the VM ports as Rotary Enable by:
Go to the Syst. Prog.
Select Extension
Hit More button twice - located in the top right corner of the phone, where you see and arrow like this >
Select Rotary Enable
Enter the VM port extensions numbers

Sometimes you can scroll up and down through the Phone System Menu. The only way you know this is because a > symbol appears in the right top corner of the display, so if you hit the button to the right of it, you will be able to see the rest of the options.

The Rotary Enable option isn't on any of the 3 pages. The only options I have on the third page are:
TrkTransfer
Cover Delay
HotLine
DisplayPref
ServiceObs
Exit

Why is my system different?

Does your system sees the VM card as a 012 or 008 OPT module?

To Make sure that your system is seeing the VM card:
- Maintenance
- System
- Inventory
Hit More until you get to the system slot that should have your VM. The system will see the VM as an 012 or 008 module.
If it does, the check the Status of the board. It may be busy out
- Maintenance
- Slot
- Status
If the system does not see the module as an 012 or 008 OPT, then you have to assigned mannually. I am not in front of a system right now so I don't remember the exact steps but let me know if this is the case so I post them later when I am in front of a system. Gladys Rodriguez

The system does see the VM Module as 012. I can check the status and it seems to be ok. It is not busy. On the other had, Slot 00 (board processor) has errors and alarms. What does this mean?

Lets going back to the beginning...
Did you do a printout of your Group calling and Group Coverage?

When dealing with delayed answer, it's prefferable to use two calling groups, 1 for voice mail and 1 for the AA. The voice mail is by tradition assigned to group 770. Although you can accomplish a delay with only one group, you not only delay calls to the AA but also you voice mail users.

It would also be helpful to know the versions of the Merlin and the VM module and how many ports are liscensed on the VM

He is unable to assign the ports to Rotary Enable and he has to do this first before he can assign 770 to be VM.

Can you check and tell me what are the errors and alarms that you are getting? You can look at those by going to the maintenance menu. Gladys Rodriguez

Sorry it took me so long for a response. The error is "ALL TTRs UNAVAILABLE". I have no idea what that means. Again, this is on Slot 00 Port 00. The count is 040. The error code is 0C03

Hey, Kinda got busy and Forgot.

VM ports should be assigned as Rotary Enable because Msg lights and other VM features depend on this. See thread689-70548 Gladys Rodriguez

I got the voice mail working. Thanks for everyone's help. One last question. Why is it that when there is an incoming call on line 801 it will get directed to extension 18's voice mail? And 803 to ext 11. I would like line 801's incoming calls to be transferred to an auto attendant on a phantom extension. I don't know how to do that though. Thanks again.
