Currently we have 24 trunk lines for PRI from line 817(T1) to 840(t24). we are changing the telco and will reduce to 16 channels.
What will I need to do for this change?
If you are going to reduce your B Channels, then you need to identify the channels being removed from your service provider first! Once you have done that, then delete them from the pool in the Legend. One note of caution, channel 24 the DCH is always provided! Do not put this channel/trunk(840) in any pool or anywhere! The DCH is the data path where all communication between the Legend and the CO switch takes place, regardless of how many BCH you have equipped. Once all of this is complete, check inward and outward calls to make sure things are functioning properly. Some telcos are sloppy about which channels they remove and don't tell you.
thank you Syquest & TouchToneTommy for your quick response.
it is PRI and not T1.
We haven't changed it yet and still pending for local ATT to install the T1s to the premise. Switching to Telepacific.
Please let me know from winspm what i need to print out so i can post for you to help me to watch out.
I did a print out for T1 & PRI.
nothing on PRI info.
see below for T1 info:
DS1 slot Attributes
Slot Type Format Supp Signal LineComp
5 T1 ESF B8ZS Rob_Bit 1
ok if it is E&M T1. good to know. i have no idea. ATT
told me PRI so i take it as that.
If Telepacific tells me that their circuit going to be PRI, we
will have to wait and see.
ok i will search for Legend initial pri setup.
thank you touchtonetommy.
i know i will still seek your help.
You really need to do your homework BEFORE cutover! That means get all the info from both providers and you need to verify what has been ordered, in addition to what is existing, or it will fall flat on its face! Especially, when you are changing providers... Do you have a complete list of all the numbers being ported to Telepacific? Do you have DID numbers? Have you verified the number of digits being sent? What PRI protocol has been given to Telepacific? You should get a copy of the CSR for the service(s) from AT&T that are being changed. That document should have all the particulars that the customer is being billed.
If you have never done one of these, you could be in for a big surprise! Murphy is just around the corner...
Yes you are right never done one of these.
i thank you for all your pointers.
all DID are the same porting to TP.
PRI protocol to TP: no
I will ask for CSR.
Just make sure they have the right protocol, AT&T CUSTOM, NO EXCEPTIONS! The Adtran is fine, hope Telepacific knows how to configure the thing to emulate a 5ESS switch properly for the Legend/Magix with PRI. You also need to verify the B channels to make sure you have 1B - 16B & 24D. By the way how is TP's billing structure for PRI with less than 23B channels? I hope you are paying less in this case, other wise why not have the whole thing, or are you using the other channels for data?
You're probably getting an "IP Flex" service, which combines Internet access with the voice service. Telepacific knows how to do 5ESS, be aware that you don't get Name, only Number. They will insist on sending you 4 digits, so you will need to read up on PRI routing tables. And you will need them to send your main number on all outgoing calls, the Legend will send invalid CID for extensions that don't have DID numbers.
Finally, if you are using T/R ports for Faxes or modems, expect them to fail!! You might want to keep them on POTS lines, and if you remotely access the Legend for programming, that also will not work over the IP Flex.
Yes even with ATT now, we have main number as DID for all outgoing calls...so that's ok.
no we dont use t/r ports for Fax/modem. however adtran has 8 ports for fax lines and they say it will only work for fax machines and not modems.
For legend programming i have it connected to a virtual machine with winxp and serial cable connected thru usb-serial converter.
only turn on vm when needed otherwise it is normally off.
