I suspect that I have several bad Touch Tone Receivers in our Merlin Legend system. I'm no expert - - so here's my question: If I busy-out a card (specifically an 016 Ring Gen), does that take the card's Touch Tone Receivers out of play ? I'm trying to determine which card (or cards) have the bad TTRs, so I can order some replacements.

Why do I think I have bad TTRs ? If I take a plain old phone and plug it in to the ports on my 012 and 016 cards, I cannot break dial-tone about one third of the time. If I hang up the phone and try again (and again), I can finally break dial-tone and make a call.

Thanks !

Thanks for your suggestions. I have followed the TTR test procedure. I think our system has 24 TTRs. However, I can only test #01 through #16 (which test OK). When I attempt to test #17 through #24, the system behaves like they don't exist.

I think I have 24 TTRs based on our config:
Slot #4,400 GS/LS/TTR should have 4 TTR’s
Slot #5 800 DID should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #6 012 Ring Gen should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #7 012 Ring Gen should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #8 012 Ring Gen should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #9 012 Ring Gen should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #12 012 Ring Gen should have 2 TTR’s
Slot #13 016 Ring Gen should have 4 TTR’s
Slot #15 016 Ring Gen should have 4 TTR’s

Maybe I am interpreting things wrong -- I'm not very experienced with Merlin Legend. I'm guessing that the TTRs in Slots #13 and #15 are not working. I'd like to busy-out those cards (if that takes their TTRs out of service) and see if my problem goes away. If so, then I know which cards to replace.

Thanks !

Why busy card when you can busy TTR's? Go to maint and choose port, then TTR; you can then status each TTR. If your system is not seeing the TTR's in slots 13 & 15 do a board renumber and test again.

Good luck

memphisribs - thanks for your reply. However, I cannot find "maint -> port -> ttr". I'm using WinSPM, in Standard SPM mode. I click on Maintenance, then I click on Port. On the port menu, there is no choice for TTR.

The choices on the Port Menu are:
F1 Line/Trunk
F2 Station
F3 RS232 Port1
F4 RS232 Port2
F5 Exit
F6 Modem
F7 B-Channel
F8 DSL
(Clicking on 'more' does not show any additional choices)

MerlinMan - thanks for your reply. When I go to Maint -> Slot -> Slot #1 through 17, no errors are found (except on 2 DS1 cards without DS1 trunks connected to them) - most look like this:
LED: Roff Yoff Goff
Errors: no
Mode: Normal
Alarms: no
Maintenance Busy: no

Any ideas ?

You need to use SLOT and you have to busy out the entire slot the TTR's reside on.

I would do this 1 at a time and see if it makes a difference.

While they are busied out, I suggest a RESET then do the RESTORE and see if that makes a difference.

MerlinMan - you hit it !
If I busy-out slots 13 and 15 (both are 016 Ring Gen cards), my problems go away. So I have ordered two replacement cards.

Thank you very much . . . .

Just wanted to say thanks to MerlinMan and MemphisRibs !!

I replaced two "016 Ring Gen" cards today, and our problem has been solved.

Your assistance is very much appreciated.
