merlin legend seting up messaging 1

I am looking for some programming help for setting up merlin messaging on my merlin legend system.

Well - depending on what operating software you are running on your processor - you could just use the "voice mail autoconfigure" option - which would set up voice mail boxes for all of the extensions that exist and set up the voice mail calling group, coverage group, etc. automatically. All you would have to do is record the menus, announcements you want. The voice mail autoconfigure function is explained in the manual for your system - which you can download from avaya.com under support, documentation. If you want to configure it differently, I would download the manual for Merlin Messaging Release 2.5 - which is what you have. It is a lengthy and tedious process - depending on how complex you want to get.

I am unable to find any info on the auto configure in my Legend manual. If you could walk me through it I would be greatly appreciative.
 
Assuming that you are running Magix Release 3.0 software - go to system programming, exit (start), system, Config M. Msg (last choice on bottom left). I believe you have an option or two to choose from there. You really need to download the manual - it is free at avaya.com - for both your processor version and the messaging system you have.

Thank you for the quick response.

I have now downloaded the manual for Both the Merlin Legend R7 and Merlin Messaging R2.5. The last option on the left is Board Renumbering, Under the system menu I do not see an option for Config M. Msg.

I have set up the call group 770 for my regular ext and 771 for Integ VMS. I can now call into my ext 771 and get the system but ext 9997 is not valid and ext 0# will not accept password 123456. Any Ideas?

Also, My extensions are not forwarding to the vms they just ring busy.

Was this a "used" system that you bought. If so, you need to reset the system - but to do that you need to successfully log into the admin mailbox - which on a Magix Messaging is "0". The mail box 9997 does not exist. If you don't know what the password for the messaging system admin mailbox has been set to - then you will need to use a "backdoor" password to get in and default the password back to "123456". I can do that for you if you can email the phone number for dialing into your system. You can reach me at my url. Use my 3-character first name and last name initial.

You should place the extensions to be covered by voice mail in cover group 30. Use 770 as your Voice mail calling group. In that group add all of the ports (extensions) that make up the magix messaging module - which will depend on the size of your port card. Make sure the hunt type is set to "linear" and group type is set to "Integrated Voice Mail". The procedure is all explained in the manual for the messaging system that you downloaded. Tom D.

ok...
I obtained the correct password and was able to administer the system. But I am still unable to get internal or external calls to forward to Vmail at all. Current set up is as follows...

770 = calling group (auto log in) phone extensions 10, 11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19 and 20
771 = Calling group for vmail ports/ext 34,35,36,37 Integ vmail
772 = Calling group for DLC ext 38 39 40 ( I don't know why these are the ext's but I am unable to change them) Integ Vms

I set up the ext to be covered (10-20) in cover grp 30 and set up 771 with all of the ext 34-37 that make up the vmail module.

I then went through the manual and followed the steps for setting this up starting with heading "Programming the Communications System" thru page 152. I still receive a busy when I dial a busied out ext and the phone just rings when not busy from both internal and external calls.
 
I am not sure what purpose your VM calling group 770 has. By convention, most people use 770 the way you have 771 programmed - that is 770 contains all voice mail ports and is the integrated VM calling group. Coverage Group 30 seems ok. If you want the VM to pick up, ypou also need to assign all lines to it - which you haven't done. If you want calles to be picked up after a delay - then you need to set up an overflow calling group. Did you set up your voice mail group to provide calling coverage for group 30? What is 772 for? Those ports are still technically part of the Messaging Module - the last one for the built-in modem. I would delete that group (remove all members).

how do I assign all lines to the coverage group and how do I set up the vmail group to provide coverage for group 30 is this part of the over flow calling group?
 
I am also unable to remove/delete groups 770 and 772. or I am not doing it correctly.
 
Oh - I forgot to mention - make sure all voice mail ports (extensions) are rotary enabled via extension programming - otherwise the VM will not answer calls.

Do you want the lines answered immediately (first ring) by voice mail or after a delay? If you want a delay - most people do it through an overflow group.

As for group 30 - put all your extensions to be answered by VM in that group. Then choose group calling, group coverage - and make your VM group provide coverage for group 30.

You don't have to delete 772 - just remove the members (extensions) from it and change it back to the default of an "auto log-in group". As for 770 - make that your integrated voice mail group with the VM extensions in it. Take the members out of 771 and make it an auto log-in group again.

If you need to set-up an overflow group - I will tell you how to do that last.

First let's get the VM to answer your calls.

ok 772 still has members in it of 38-39-40 I can't seem to remove them from the group. But is now an "auto log out"
771 is the VM group with 34-35-36-37 in it & is "Integ VMS"
770 still has ext 10-20 in it as I do not seem to know how to remove them. This is an "auto Log in"

I can now get the messaging system to answer internal calls after 4 rings. The ones that are not initiated are transfered to the operator.

When I call in from the outside it just rings...

It may be best to start over - by defaulting the processor (frigid start). That will get rid of all the extra groups you have set up. Then first set up the VM group as 770 as discussed. Next rotary enable the VM ports, next setup Cover Group 30 with all the extensions in it you want VM to answer, then set up call coverage of Group 30 by 770. And, see how that works for you.

This should give you no delay with VM answering external calls on the first ring (a lot of people do this to have VM route the calls to the extensions they want via direct extension transfer or via a menu). If you want people to answer their own phones and have VM pick up after 4 rings or so - then you will need to set up an overflow group for VM. It is better to do it that way, rather than setting up delayed answering in the VM module.

I defaulted the restart and went back to square one. I have set up the groups as you described. When i called in from the outside it rang 4 times and then went to vmail. the box that it went to was the General administrative mail box or the operators extension (10). What I would like to do is set up an automated attendant with a call routing announcement so that people calling in can dial an extension.

You have been extremely helpful, and I certainly understand if you don't have anymore time to spend on this but it would be greatly appreciated if you could walk me through setting up this automated attendant.

Ryan: You need to first preplan what you expect the autoattendant(s) to do by filling out the suggested planning forms which you can download from Avaya. It's a bit cumbersome - but you need to figure out how many - if any announcements you will need to record, whether or not you will need any sub menus or just the main attendant anouncement. You will also first need to record the main system greeting. It takes a bit of preplanning because you have to record the announcments first, the sub menus in reverse order and lastly the main attendant menu. You also have to consider whether or not you will keep your business schedule "closed" all the time or if you need to set up a different schedule - this affects your processor programming too - if you plan to have a "night service" button. But, basically to program the auto attendant you need to log into VM as administrator, press 9, press 4 for automated attendants, there is a day attendant and a night attendant menu - you need to program each one individually - even if you choose to keep your business schedule "closed" all the time - which is the default. I would prefer that you read through the process and fill-out the planning forms before you go further. At least your system seems to be running.

just as an FYI...I was able to set the automated attendant and business schedule successfully and all is working perfectly. Thank you again so much for your assistance...
