Hi-
We recently had a processor card die on us. I opened up that clamshell and it was a CKE4. The only replacement processor card I could find for cheap was a CKE3 with R7 V12. I'm not sure what release or Version the Legend system was using before. Is there a way to tell? Will I be able to just swap out processors and do a restore from the backup card without having any problems?
I don't believe the old processor was up to R7 yet. Maybe 5 or 6.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Not good.

You may be able to look at the 517??? Number and/or the comcode and figure out what it was by that.

Another way to tell is to fire it up and go into maintenance. But you said that it is dead.

I would take the battery straps off and wait awhile and then put them back and see if it would fire up again.

I have been known to be able to fix one that died, but only by making it a newer release.

If you have your back up card, I may be able to load it into a system and then upgrade those translations to the R7.

But, it sounds like you are way past that.

If I was able to get a CKE4 would I be able to just to a restore without worrying about Release and Version?

Not exactly, it has to be at least the same release.

Version is not too important.

I build R7's on CKE5's and then restore to a CKE4.

BUT THEY ARE BOTH R7s.

You should be able to restore to the CKE3, UNLESS you have some HIGH DENSITY CARDS in the ORIGINAL. (016 MLX, ect.)

What exactly is the difference between CKE, 3-5?
I never have known what makes them unique from one another.

Of course the CKE5 fits the NON-CLAM SHELL Magix carrier, thus it needs to be retro-fitted to go into a LEGEND.

The CKE4 and CKE5 have enough memory for the HIGHER DENSITY Cards (016 MLX, 016 ETR) where as, the CKE3 does not.

I have built a CKE3 as an R7, told it that it had 016 MLX cards in it. When we loaded the translations on the CKE5 Processor, the top ports of the 016 MLX Cards didn't work.

OF course, I didn't loose anything in the way of translations. All I had to do was a Board Renumber, and everything was hunky dorie...

Bottom line, unless you are using the high density cards, the CKE3 would be ok. (Not per AVAYA, but I just told you the caveats.)

What I did was convert the backup I had to R7 and restored it to the system. Everything seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for all your help!
